Gents, I'm on mission 3 of the British Forces campaign, spoiler follows:

Click to reveal..
The "defend the FOB", Mission 3, is somewhat vexing. I don't like doing a lot of save-and-load but I have no idea how to keep my AI squadmates alive during this assault. It's all I can do to get a LAW and play hide-and-seek with the Taliban armored vehicles. I do not know what the best tactics are in ArmA 2 sp to place troops in defensive positions. I have sometimes seen a "find cover" command in the orders interface but it only shows up in certain circumstances that are mysterious to me. I have rwached the point where the Warrior arrives and am not sure what to do next or how the mission proceeds from here. Surely there is not another wave of assaulters on the FOB/ I only have three men left so I don't think I'm going to run up the hill and assault the Talib OP.

Finally, can anyone direct me to documentation that explains the newfangled "buy" module where it appears that you can hit spacebar and purchase defensive equipment and deploy it? I am completely in the dark about this, having been unaware of the innovation. Is there a tutorial mission or a manual?

Many thanks.

Its basically the warfare interface screen for placing buildings/defenses. Look for the warfare tutorial.

As for what I did in the mission

Click to reveal..
I moved my squad into the buildings and courtyards near the intersection. I grabbed an NLAW and took care of most of the armor myself. And then let my squad help out with an infantry. I didn't build or place any defenses.

Tutorials are your friends. wink

But the simple thing, activate your buy overlay, select something, rotate it and place it somewhere... repeat till out of money... then one at a time hit an F key to select 1 unit, point at the weapon system and select get in... move to next.... repeat... you can get 3 or 4 weapon systems ready before the first wave... then just let the battle rip, if a man goes down, assist in the kill then order the next man on the weapon platform.

Thanks for the good info, guys. I'm going to get to grips with the Construction thingy and see if this increases the survivability of my beleaguered troops in this mission.

By "assist in the kill", Magnum, are you advocating a a little tactical fragging?
