September 15th, 198x.

Somewhere west of the Weser river, West Germany. Day 4 of the war.

0915.

NATO aircraft have just spotted a concentration of enemy armoured vehicles 5km east of the small hamlet of Gerlingen, which is currently held by the remains of a German Panzergrenadier battalion, barely worth two full companies. The men are low on beans, bullets and friends.

As battalion HQ desperately calls for help on the radio the weary grenadiers move out

Forward positions

A platoon of Leopard 2s arrive! They're down to 50% main gun ammo and one has damaged main optics, but it's better than sticks and stones.

Orders are to hold if possible and perform a fighting retreat, covering the infantry, if necessary.

All too soon the Russians appear:

A mix of old T-55s and T-62, accompanied by motorized infantry in BMPs. Certainly no 1st rate troops. But there's a lot of them!

They get a very unpleasant surprise as the Leopards suddenly move out from their full defilade position:

"Kampfpanzer 12 Uhr! KE Munition! Feuer!"

At a range of ~2200m the Leopards open fire:

The enemy immediately suffers heavy casualties, but despite the losses they push on their attack relentlessly.

But as they get closer the Panzergrenadiers and their Mader IFVs begin to engage them with their TOWs, artillery starts raining down on the spear point and the Panzers continue to exact a a terrible toll on the advancing armour.

As the attack breaks down the Russians call in heavy artillery fire to mask their withdrawal. The Leopards pull back out of the barrage but as it becomes clear that the enemy is withdrawing they promptly advance again to counter-attack.

The Russian attack has become a complete rout, with the Leopards racing through the burning wrecks until they are at last ordered to stop.

The Leopards are undamaged, but down to between 2 and 6 rounds of ammo.

The Panzergrenadiers have suffered ~20% casualties, mostly due to artillery.
