Recently I have migrated from Win XP to Win 7 and have encountered the usual problems of installing the new Cougar Joystick 64-bit driver for Win 7 (2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe). To get it to work, I had to set the driver to Vista compatibility mode, SP2 and set the Privilege level to run as administrator. After a certain amount of hastle, I was able to get it to install.

However, when I attempt to use Jangstang’s Falcon AF profile, I noticed that the DirectX button (DXn) assignments don’t appear to work at all. For example, he has assigned DX10 to the macro Spd_Brakes_Open. When I move the speed brake slider, nothing happens. But this function did work properly in Win XP.

Fortunately, all the key presses such as Alt + b, or CTL + s, or anything else will be passed on to the sims as you would hope.

Have any of you experienced this issue?

Bill Clark.

I'm going to move this to the hardware section, you may have a little more help over there.

Hi,
open up foxy.
Choose Apps -> Foxy's Direct X8 Cougar Analyser
Check the checkbox 'View buttons as DirectX buttons'
Try speed braak.
Number 10 and 9 must be lit.

rhamphor,

As it turns out, when I run Foxy's Direct X8 Cougar Analyser, the selection box for the applet doesn't show a choice for selection of the Cougar Joystick. Therefore, I can't make it work.

It is my opinion, and my trial and error attempts, that the Vista/Win 7 64-bit driver is not installed properly, or there is a flaw in the DXn feature. I just don't know which. I did send an email to the Thrustmaster support team via their website about this issue.

As it turns out, the Cougar stick and throttle works fine with my FSX and IL-2 1946 profiles for those two sims as I'm sending standard key press commands. However, the excellent profiles developed by Jastang fail whenever one of the buttons assigned a DXn command is executed. Here is the link to Jastang's site in case you are not familiar with his work:

http://www.falcon40.co.uk/

I used this profile for several years under Win XP, but now it no longer works.

Any ideas?

Bill Clark
