I don't see any problem with the view system. With trackir it is perfect -you see things exactly as the pilot saw them.
And if you don't use trackir then i don't think there is any entitlement to comment on the limitations of the view system on sims of the quality of OFF and ROF. We are discussing hard core combat flight simming here, and in this day and age that must mean using trackir.

The only way that Winder and Co can improve OFF re the engine is to use their own complete code. There are no screenies of ROF I've seen that to me make it any graphically better than OFF.
Having said that I'd love to fly ROF - but not while there are online requirements.

Hello,
i also think the terrain and look of the landscape in RoF is not better than in OFF, especially the winterland in RoF is somehow strange, while the summer looks like a well maintained model railway and well cared-for golf lawn (sorry).

But there are some points that are indeed better in Rise of Flight, landscape-wise:

1. Roads and rivers in OFF are far too rectangluar, or straight. While some streets and esp. railroads are more or less straight in real life, there are no sudden edges, to change direction.
2. The greyish-blue rivers and sea surfaces do not look good or realistic at all.
3. Ground objects look better in RoF, thinking of the locomotives and AA lorries - they are not bad in OFF, but it's a tad better in RoF.

What i would like to see, and had already been shown for OFF phase 3 (if never done) was maintenance and spare parts lying around on the aerodrome, with mechanics working everywhere. In phase 3 we already have those parts being stored in the tents and hangars, this would be a very nice touch, if further developed.

The biggest gripe for me is the online requirement even for single play. And no, single player offline campaign in RoF is not really offline.
While lots of (Rof staff) folks try to tone this down all the time, i guess i must be the only one who has continuous problems with "server not available", "authentification failure" and "synchronization errors". And it happens often, not just 10 minutes a week. Mostly in situations were i am close to shoot at an enemy AI plane, and then a sudden lag occurs, with a message popping up blocking the view, saying the online connection has been lost, while the action goes on in the background and all controls dead, until shutting down this damned window, which you have to do repeatedly, because it keeps coming up all the time again.

I have bought Rof and all planes but the Fokker D.VIII (E.V) which i'm simply not interested in, and i like the flying experience, especially those tail dragger ground loops and rotary problems with the N.17. But in all other aspects regarding campaign, AI and squadron development, there is no comparison to OFF yet - but they are working on it. But so does the OFF team, for phase 4.

If the percentage of people who did not buy RoF because of the online requirement is as high as it is in Silent Hunter V, they have lost a lot of customers with it.

Greetings,
Catfish

I agree with Catfish and Others, One of the reasons I didn't buy SH V was the on line requirement. Another was the simulations seem to be in the Beta Stage after SH 3 ( which I still enjoy playing) Just last week on my 4th War Patrol, I was rammed and sunk by a Tanker ship at night in fog. Where else but in SH 3 and OFF do such Normal life like things happen ? In OFF I have ran out of gas,and have had the Motor quit (ice up ?)I up at high Altitudes. I might become interested in ROF if the on line requirement was dropped. The ROF game does seem to have great graphics, but not a lot " Grit " to the Game. Just my 2 cents fellows.
