Mafia 2 is out at the end of next month and i'm really looking forward to it as Mafia was great IMO and I still load it up every now and again. Picked up Godfather 2 recently really cheap and really like that too and I'm off on a Mafia bent now! (Just watched Eastern Promises which is very good on an aside.)

Jst seen it come up on Steam and noticed they have remained with SP only and I think that is good and they won't water it down with a bolt MP but in these days of everything has to be MP or it sinks I hope it's not a bad move on Illusion Softworks side.

As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster

Jeez, how much I liked playing Tommy, driving around "City of the lost heaven" and be in the story. Everything fitted in this game.

Big hopes for Mafia 2

Too bad about no MP. I wish they would make a game like that with full campaign coop like saints row 2 did.

Looking forward to this one too, reserved my copy a few weeks ago. The first one was big fun, so I hope this second one will measure up.

I liked the first one, but the combat was lacking. Sometimes I'd get hit with rounds that I didn't think I should have. A few of the missions were....well.....frustrating to say the least.

The racing one was annoying but I downloaded a save game and got past that one lol. Hopefully they have learnt from their first game smile

there has to be race, every game has to have a race this day, i just hope it is optional this time.
i also hope the police is as good as it were then, i liked them going after me for going on red light, or on the wrong lane, lol.

Yeah I liked that as in GTA you can run red lights, go the wrong way in front of the police and they do nothing. I liked it when they arrest you too.

That race was tough. Using a Sidewinder joystick to drive with, I must have run that race a dozen times before I nailed 1st place.

Has anybody noticed that the main character looks a bit like a young Marlo Brando?

picture of Marlon from "Streetcar named desire"

or this one

Cheers

Just played through the demo twice, really like it. City looks gorgeous, like the new cover system.

PhysX causes a brutal performance hit on my system (C2D E6750, GTX 260, Win7 64, 2 Gig RAM) but without if runs fine at ~50 FPS.

I remember the race as well. I also remember a mission where you had to chase someone in a car towards the latter missions that was very hard. Took me forever but I finally got it. Then my sister got to that mission and I had to beat it for her.

I loved the variety of missions like the ride into the country where you end up in a gun battle at the gas station and the airport mission.

What kind of performance results are you all getting? With everything turned on, according to benchmark, it averages 27fps when things are really flying. I turned physx off and got an averages of 37fps with most of the time it being average 41fps.

The main difference that I could see with PhysX on and off was debris that piled up. I certainly don't need that for the sake of 10+fps as the physics still looked good to me.

After I did the benchmark with PhysX turned off the test once again said average FPS was 37. What was kind of annoying was that it gave me a message saying that this is not optimal performance. I don't agree with that as I had literally everthing else turned on and on high with PhysX being the only thing I turned off and it says its not optimal. Unless running PhysX in their eyes is optimal. With vertical sinc turned on, AA turned on, 16XAF enabled, shadows on high, geometric turned to high, whatever that occulusion is turned and a resolution of 1920X1080 and getting and average of 37 to 41 fps I think I'm doing pretty good. Therefore the "not optimal" message seems silly to me.

Other than that it sure does feel like Mafia. Driving around the city felt like the old days just with updated graphics. Don't knock me for it but I wish thay had a language filter. I'd like to turn the f words off. Fun though.

Didn't run that smoothly on a 2GHz Turion and a Go 7900 GS. wink

Specular occlusions (or whatever its called) seem to kill FPS for me.

I have just reinstalled and completed the original Mafia:City of lost heaven just to whet my appitite for this game, I have been really looking forward to it, and I have to say I like the sequel a lot, but, going by this demo it seems a little more like a GTA episode than the original Mafia game. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but there is something there.
