hi,

getting bored of the unique F4AF UI music, i searched the right triggers to change it.
Here's what to do to change the UI music during Main UI, TE and Campaign UIs.

1)
[Main Dir]\music: change or add the tracks you want (e.g. FF5, RV etc.), but keep the names as below.

2)
Go to [Main Dir]\art\main\
Make a backup of soundrc.irc and open it with the WIN-Editor (maybe an hex editor is necessary).

Here the entries to locate and change:

[STREAMSOUND] SND_TAPS >> "music\taps.wav" (lose campaign music)
[STREAMSOUND] SND_TAKEOFF >> "music\takeoff.wav" (hear takeoffs from your base)
[STREAMSOUND] SND_AMBIENT1 >> "music\ui1.wav" (UI music main screen)
[LOOPCOUNT] SND_AMBIENT1 >> 1 (50% prob change between ui1.wav & ui2.wav)
[STREAMSOUND] SND_AMBIENT2 >> "music\ui2.wav" (TE & neutral campaign)
[STREAMSOUND] SND_CAMPAIGN_GOOD >> "music\ui3.wav" (music good campaign)
[LOOPCOUNT] SND_CAMPAIGN_GOOD >> 2 (returning from good to neutral campaign)
[STREAMSOUND] SND_CAMPAIGN_MEDIUM >> "music\ui6.wav" (music medium campaign)
[LOOPCOUNT] SND_CAMPAIGN_MEDIUM >> 2 (returning from medium to neutral campaign)
[STREAMSOUND] SND_CAMPAIGN_BAD >> "music\ui5.wav" (music bad campaign)
[LOOPCOUNT] SND_CAMPAIGN_BAD >> 2 (returning from bad to neutral campaign)

Rock & Roll,

Thanks for the input. Doesn't seem to handle .mp3 formats, though... oh, well... smile

It has to be .wav files. There was once a post that describes how to save the wav file too.

There are converters mp3 to wav, also conversions between other formats possible. One that i just googled was
http://www.mp3convertors.com/
I don't know if this is freeware, though.
Also, chances are that the wav file must be limited in size.

Another thing i've noticed is: With the "loops" in campaign, the music get stuck after 2 loops.
One possible cause: you must MOVE the backup file out of the \art directory. Will take a look at it. Normally, the music should switch to the track for "neutral campaign", as in FF5 or RV.

I remember ages ago when someone made a main UI music that was the Top Gun intro... any one still have it?

lol Panther.
I just read your comment. Had to download it and play with it. Makes me laugh everytime. So epic.

Serious question though. Is there a way to stop the main UI music restarting everytime you change screens?
Also, what exactly triggers the takeoff.wav to play? I inputed a test piece so I know when it plays, but after testing it out the "takeoff.wav" never plays. Suggestions?

Now I need to record some Pink Floyd. DSOTM WYWH & The Wall
Way Way sweet for those instructions codes-

I had just been using the FreeFalcon 5 musical scores. I used a wave editor and combined them all into one long track...which works fairly well since it does loop within the interface. The long track removes the 'repetitive' feeling to go into setup and turn down the interface's slider.
But Allied Force uses only one track, which we know is ui1.wav.
So the above instructions force AF to play the other waves relevant to the campaign's status.....?

One thing I missed alot was the TakeOff running in the background.

I know the Top Gun theme is very dated to some but I thought it would be fun to see for myself how it might fit into the Falcon interface.
Using the wave editor reveals that the track's volume is maxed out and the clipping counts run into the hundreds. Reminds me of Sony/BMS records re-releasing music using the 'Loudness' remaster technique.. Crappy, crummy, ruined alot of good music with that method.

And since I hate criticizing Falcon4, I will say this...
The opening film video and the User Interface music are about the lamest excuses of product representation I've ever seen or heard.
And I've heard a bunch, folks.

I was disappointed to find alot of the interface music had been removed from the campaign's background. The cheesy Allied score would get on someone's nerves in about 3 minutes.
And the planes taking off in the background was a really sweet concept as you studied the war map.
So this told me two things:
The team wasn't focused on the gingerbread...they were focused on repairing the codes and war entities...
-or-
The team was reaching release deadlines and didn't get to put a final polish on the interface.

Falcon 4.0's opening video was super sweet and does anyone here remember that video being used as an add during the 1999 Superbowl?
How F'in cool was that for us falcon freaks-

I merely replaced the oem Allied avi w/the older F4 avi.
Thanks to the above coding instructions, Pink Floyd will add a sweet dark undertone...although FFalcon5's theme music is excellent for such a background-

As far as converters go....one can use WavePad 3 or whatever the latest version is.
You open a sound file using WaveEdit and it'll convert it on the fly.
Those that use Creative Labs Soundblaster Live know about its integrated wave editor.
