Gas and brake pedals aren't key presses either, as they are analogue axes. You sometimes need just 50% throttle to accelerate through an opening turn but not more, to keep from going off and sometimes you need to brake 80% to keep from locking up.

With rudder pedals, you have 'the other foot' move backwards. With Gas/brake, you only have a foot going forward, if that makes sense. Right rudder is the gas pedal, left rudder is brake pedal.

Some pedal sets have a switch, that allows them to be separate axes for the use of throttle under braking. That switch needs to be set to single axis.

Aircraft pedals will also have toe action, left toe is the left main gear brake and right toe is right gear brake, so you both need to be able to depress the pedals and also to slide them fore and aft.

Ah, now I get where the confusion comes from. So far I had no need for toe brakes and have SimPeds without. Anyway, in a pinch a set of gas/brake pedals will do as a temporary set of aircraft pedals or an introduction to them. For braking all games still have a key press, I guess?

I have an X52 Pro and Pro Flight pedals. The HOTAS has lots of buttons to custom program so that's a good thing. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy the X52. I'm slowly building a simpit and for the immersion factor, I should have gone with the Cougar because the X52 doesn't look very realistic. The other problem for me and other Saitek users is with older sims. I'm flying F18 Precision Strike Fighter at the moment and I have to use the precision slide as the throttle, instead of the proper throttle. Saitek does not offer a means to swap axes. Same with the rudder (not that rudder is a big deal in jets, but it would be in prop planes). I can't swap the stick twist with the rudder pedals. They're just an expensive toe brake.

You can, actually, with a bit of work. You use PPJoy to register a virtual joystick with DirectX and then use GlovePIE to remap your X52's axes into the correctly ordered one on the virtual joystick. Make sure that virtual joystick is controller 1 and most older games will use it instead.

So the virtual joystick has axes from two physical devices mapped to it? That makes it sound like it could solve the throttle and precision slider mix up too.

I have a Saitek X52 non Pro, and it works fine.
