I was getting pauses every few seconds in rfactor. The framerates were okay, but just getting slight pauses. It was causing me to overshoot apexes and run off the track frequently. I finally quit out because I couldn't take it any longer. Come to find out, my virus scanner was scanning in the background. ... <note to self "turn off virus scanner before racing"> nope

I knew I couldn't hang with the faster LMP1 cars today, but I hope to persist via survival.

Unfortunately I hit JonC in the braking zone for the chicane at the start. I braked early, but apparently not early enough. Terribly sorry about that, Jon. I know you had stated a faster race pace than you were ultimately running, and I hope I wasn't the cause of that. I feel awful involved in an incident with you for the last two of these ILMS races that I've run...

The early incident allowed me to gain some experience picking my way past slower cars, which I did cautiously. When Jon and I got back through I had an 8-second lead on him. I'm not sure why, but it turned out JonC and I were sharing a pit stall. Since it wouldn't be fair to make him wait for me when I was the reason he was behind me, I planned to let him by on the straight on our in-lap. Turned out I slid off the road a lap before that (rolling back into Jon's path...) so he got in front of me anyway.

I chased Jon for the rest of the race, knowing that any time I got within 16 seconds of him I was just going to lose waiting behind him at the next pit stop. My hope was that I would keep this gap small, and then a mistake would allow me past. Then he would be the one stuck waiting for me.

With the last pit stop coming up Jon seemed to be having a slow stint and I had taken a 20+ second gap down to about 12 seconds. Coming out of the pits this was back up to 17 seconds because I had to wait again. At this point I decided I had to push like hell for any hope of overtaking Jon before the checkered flag. Since he was previously slow, I thought there was a chance.

I kept the same hard tires on the entire race, and they felt fine until the last stint. However, I could tell on my final outlap that the car felt differently. Certainly I had banged it up enough throughout the race, but it had gotten considerably less predictable after the final stop.

I tried to work with the car and try to make up time on Jon, but it wasn't to be; I couldn't go any faster than him, and the little understeer moments I was getting were costing me 0.5 seconds here, 0.5 seconds there, so I backed off. Even then I couldn't keep the car under me at the end of the race.

This race was mentally exhausting. It's also the first racing I've done since I made my Clubsport brake pedal stiffer, and my left leg was quite painful at the end of the race. I tried to grab the last spot on the podium today, but it wasn't to be.

Great qualifying, great race. I managed to get poll position by a mere 3 seconds from Col Kurtz and through the first lap he was only about 1-2 seconds behind me. I was driving very consistently in the first stint with 3 consecutive 7:21 laps, trying to shake him off, and by the end of the first stint I was almost 10 seconds in front, which I was quite happy with.

Col Kurtz got a penalty at the start of his 2nd stint so that gave me even more breathing space. From there it was just about maintaining the gap and increasing it whenever I could, which I did gradually throughout the entire race. I had one really big sideways moment on Lap 11 when I was pushing too hard but managed to save it. On the next lap I had my one and only spin, but it was fairly controlled, so no damage and minimal loss of time.

In the end I took the win by 2 and a half minutes with one of my most consistent endurance drives, so really happy with that smile It's also my first race around Nordschleife so that's even more special smile

Congratulations to the class winners, podium finishes and all those that finished.

Congratulations to the Class Winners and Overall Winner Ahmad. Just finishing made you a winner.

Sadly, there were three cars that succumbed to kerb disease. Sorry there was no wrecker but weighing how narrow the track is and figuring the "offs" would not be on a visible section, I thought it better to stay out of the Yellow Submarine for this one and keep the roadway clear.

A bizarre race on a bizarre track. Besides excitement on the opening laps, it was a sight to behold watching the GT2 slugfest. If you get some free time, watch the replay and look carefully at the Autosim Analyzer positions page. The GT2 show really was special.

As race promoter, I suppose I should be concerned when there are 38 cars signed up as the high-point for an event, and it dwindles down to 15 entries on the grid. But I suspect many drivers who still planned to attend probably never got time to practice The Ring "properly" and decided it would be a mess if they decided to drive. That reason and the summer sunshine. If we get less than 30 entries for Laguna Seca, then I'll start to be concerned the series is going stale. The 15 minute quali race and one hour earlier start at 12 PM eastern time is intended to beef-up the attendance. Let's see if it works. wink

Because its a distance of several weeks to the Laguna Seca race, we will have a VHR stock car race mid-August. If you have not tried them before with us, I can promise you closer, faster, and more fun racing than you would have believed possible with cars that only turn left. Give it a shot.

Congratulations to the winners and the podium takers. Indeed, I couldn't practice the Ring myself, but gave it a shot anyway. I was hopelessly outclassed, but it was still a challenge - until the kerbs got me. Tried to get back on the track, but I merely blew the engine by trying that.

On to Laguna Seca.

Looking at the results... those qualifying times for the GT2's were close! I didn't notice that at the time.

Qualifying for me went okay, I could have gone faster but not fast enough to get pole.

At the start, going into the first corner I was surprised to see Ahmad almost spin off the track and for a second thought I may have been able to take over the lead. He managed to save it though, and we went into the first lap nose to tail.

For the first 4 or 5 laps I was putting in maximum effort in an attempt to pressure him into another mistake, but it wasn't happening. Instead, Ahmad was just slightly pulling away.

At the first pit stop I got myself a drive through, which I messed up and had to repeat again. And after being very lucky to escape a curb, decided Ahmad was too far ahead and too fast to bother with. Jon and Joe were a long way behind after a problem at the start so I settled for 2nd. From there it was a lonely drive to the flag.

I enjoyed the race, though as Joe mentioned, it seemed more exhausting than usual. Maybe because of the longer track layout it became more difficult to get into a track rhythm, or maybe it was because I'd been used to driving the GT1's instead of the quicker LMPs.

Well done to everyone who learned the long difficult track and managed to take part.

Congrats to winners Ahmad, Darren, David Kennard and Birdski.

I really hated to miss today's race- Unfortunately, things have really picked up at the office over the last couple of weeks and I didn't get enough practice to feel comfortable. It was just too much track for me! Combine that with the fact that I drive like there's a load of bricks in the trunk, and participating seemed like a bad idea.

Laguna Seca should be a blast, though. I can't miss that one...

Another great event for SimHQ. The Ring has often been kind to me, but I wasn't expecting to take GT2 Pole so that was an unexpected bonus (very close tho!).

I knew my race pace was good and i'd have a clear(ish) track so I elected to do a short first stint in full qualli setup to try and pull a gap.

Thankfully this worked out well and i was able to manage the advantage throughout the rest of the race and the offset pitstops meant i had little or no traffic for much of the event.

Most of the GT2 guys seemed to be on slightly different strategies which meant it was never clear who was the actual 'leader' and positions changed hands every couple of laps as people pitted at different times.

As things evened out at the end I was releved to see that i'd done enough to take the GT2 win. I'd like to give a special mention to Ben who was pushing me very hard but he had an extremely unlucky spin at the carousel. Without that, things would have been much closer but he did an amazing drive to come back through the field and take 2nd in class. Well done m8.

Most importantly for me, i managed to have a good clean race with only one small spin and a slight scrub on the barrier. Hats off to the faster cars for your patience and safe overtaking too.

Many Congrats to winners Ahmad, David and Birdski.

Special mention to ADC team mate David who had one of the most torrid races imaginable. He deserves a medal just for getting to the finish when many of us would have given up.

Now i'm off to think about the Stock Car event and practice turning left WinkNGrin

Thanks all for this great event.

I love the Ring, but I'm not always that lucky here.

I should have practiced a bit more for this race. It seems like I maybe should have started on different tires. The hards that I used were fine during the race, but I think they would have lasted another 1-1.5 hours. Now I'm wondering what had happened if I had driven on meds.
But the tires were not my biggest problem. I had a few offs and spins and 2 big crashes. That lost me a lot of topspeed in the 2nd half of the race. And to really finish things off I got a drive through for speeding in the pitlane.

That are all things that I did to my self so I can only blame myself. smile
Except for the lack of practice. I blame that on my ADC teammates that came up with new rFactor and GTR2 mods. wink

The battle in GT2 was good fun to see. For a long time it wasn't clear who would be ahead.

Congrats to all that competed in this event.
Especially the class winners: Ahmad, Darren, Birdski and David. thumbsup
