How does gas/brake pedals work like that? I thought flight pedals had more functions than "Press A" Press B"
Gas and brake pedals aren't key presses either, as they are analogue axes. You sometimes need just 50% throttle to accelerate through an opening turn but not more, to keep from going off and sometimes you need to brake 80% to keep from locking up.
With rudder pedals, you have 'the other foot' move backwards. With Gas/brake, you only have a foot going forward, if that makes sense. Right rudder is the gas pedal, left rudder is brake pedal.
Some pedal sets have a switch, that allows them to be separate axes for the use of throttle under braking. That switch needs to be set to single axis.
