So I am finally going through this series. Having finished season one I think I can say its reputation as a quality show is well earned. Yes there are late 70s garish costumes and hairstyles, shoddy sets, crap SFX and people being knocked unconscious by kicks to the stomach, but being a fan of old Dr. Who I am well acclimated to such things. I find it amusing that the insignia for the earth federation is just the one from Star Trek rotated 90 degrees. smile So definitely recommended for die hard sci-fi fans and if anyone wants some links to this show shoot me a PM.

Seriously, if a show has well written stories and interesting characters that you feel connected to then that more than makes up for crappy set design, SFX and costumes. ST: TOS and Babylon 5 are the first examples that come to mind!

interesting quote from the wiki:

Quote:
Hanks compared the series' ethos to that of Star Trek, saying that: "If you wanted to sum up the relative position of Britain and America in this century - the ebbing away of the pink areas of the map, the fading of national self-confidence as Uncle Sam proceeded to colonise the globe with fizzy drinks and Hollywood - you could do it like this: they had Star Trek, we had Blake's 7... No "boldly going" here: instead, we got the boot stamping on a human face which George Orwell offered as a vision of humanity's future in Nineteen Eighty-Four." Hanks concluded that: "Blake's 7 has acquired a credibility and popularity Terry Nation can never have expected... I think it's to do with the sheer crappiness of the series and the crappiness it attributes to the universe: it is science-fiction for the disillusioned and ironic - and that is what makes it so very British."[44]

Even though it's been such a long time, I clearly recall the sound the AI/computer made when they removed that little box that turned it on/off. smile

Ah yes Orac. So far in my viewing not the most useful ubercomputer ever made. But uncooperative computers seems to be a theme on Blakes 7.

*EDIT* Okay I have to take that back because Orac was just extremely useful!

Avon is pretty much the man. I think if he was running the show they would have gotten to the end of season 2 by the 5th episode of season 1. smile

I'm into season 3 now...

Click to reveal..
Waiting and waiting to see where the frak Blake is. Avon is in his prime though so there's that. Travis' death had me laughing my ass off. A bit like Boba Fett's death. After all they go through it takes about 2 seconds to throw them into something hehe.
