I came across this link at CSW. It is the website of a Russian/Ukrainian(?) who has blended WWII images and a modern-day image taken from the same perspective.

Almost all of the writing is in Cyrillic.

That's pretty cool. Thanks for the link. I love images that show the exact same place but years apart.

That's some awesome stuff right there. I really wish they taught more of WWII history in US schools rather than glossing over it, there is still a lot to learn from that conflict that applies today.

Can you imagine walking down one of those streets after seeing the picture of fallen comrades right where you are standing now?

Chilling.

Amazing. Like ghosts.

One thing I notice is that they keep their buildings. Here, you couldn't do that. The buildings would be gone, malls, cheaply built apartment buildings, and condominiums would be in their places. We love the bulldozer and have very little regard for anything over five years old. After all, destroying your own history is all part of free enterprise.

Cheers!

That certainly has a way of making history "come alive".

I've always watched WWII footage which is almost all in black and white. And part of me always has wondered what those places look like in colour for some reason. With this set, I get a little bit of that answered.

I remember as a kid in high school equivalent a publication called "After the Battle" or something like that. Photos of WW2 battles, and current (then) photos of the same location taken in the 70's. Gave me goosebumps browsing the images.

Very cool. Thanks for posting that.

I particularly liked the fourth picture with the AT gun. Quite eerie.
