Note #7

The dense fields of cornfields and crops were causing long and unpleasant load-times so they were removed. They've been replaced with orchards which provide better much ground coverage at a much lower cost to load-times (several minutes vs half a minute).

The main and mini green-zones have been populated with vegetation. Herat city has been mapped out but it'll be sometime before it gets populated with buildings. The next task is to build some village prefabs, walls, compounds, fortified taliban positions and dress them throughout the map.

Cheers

Curious how that will be handled compared with jane's longbow...thanks and good luck with the project!

Richard can probably give you a more comprehensive answer, but I believe the aim is for there to be a "You have control/I have control" mechanism. It will allow you to hand flight control over to the computer while you search for targets. I believe we'll also have an option for an automatic gunner that picks targets out for you to fire on.

Cheers

cool, thanks for the info - sounds like a good plan to me!

That would be so fantastic, particularly for those such as myself who really want to spend most of their time in the front, working the sensors and weapons.

Ok I understand and thanks for the reply.

BTW, I really like your idea for the campaign - An asymmetrical conflict which can escalate to a conventional conflict is inded an awesome idea and something never seen (at least as far as I remember) in a combat helo sim!

To be fair on the part of the devs, I think they're intending on two different campaigns, one in Iran, and one in Afghanistan, separately. Because if we look at the Iraq invasion, it was the other way around, a conventional fight that devolved into an insurgency campaign.

Humm that wasn't the idea that I got from the devs. I could be wrong but from what I understood is that Combat-Helo will have only one campaign which is set in Afghanistan and which start as the "usual" counter-insurgency operations against the Talibans but will (or could) eventually escalate into a conventional shooting war when Iran decides (for some unknown reason) to invade Afghanistan and US forces based in Afghanistan will of course have the addicional task of fighting back the Iranians. Also the Afghanistan map area of combat-helo is set in an area (Herat) where Afghanistan borders with Iran.

Of course I could be wrong, but there's no-one better to confirm or dismiss this than Flexman... smile

Ricunes is correct. In our campaign, Iran will invade Afghanistan.

Herat is a very pro-Iranian province and historically Iran has long believed it to be a province of their own. The local warlords are all Iranian funded. Most of the natives of the area are Tajiks, they speak Persian. When the Taliban came to power, and attacked Herat, Iran very nearly invaded Afghanistan. They had apparently massed along the borders back in 2000. They canned the plans after the NATO invasion of 2001.

Our campaign follows on from the current real world conflict in Helmand province. The concept is that should the Taliban retreat, they might choose to retreat north-west into Herat. NATO forces would follow, expanding their position at camp stone south of Herat, and begin engaging Taliban positions. Local Tajik civilians get caught in the crossfire, Iran decides to move in to backup their warlords, and secure the civilian population. One too many stray arty rounds and NATO is in a full blown conflict with Iranian armoured forces.

Cheers
