Have we seen all there is to see of Dangerous Waters? I absolutely love this sim and was wondering if anyone knew of any plans for an updated version or maybe a second installment?

Thanks.

Panzer have you tried the RA (Reinforce Alert) or the LWAMI 3.1? You can read all about them at Subsim.com but something tells me you already know about these two upgrades. I'm currectly playing RA and its really cool. Lots of new playable platforms. Great work by these guys. Don't have any details since I just started playing DW. As you know DW is pretty deep and as most of us, I don't have the time to really play it as much as I'd like to. BTW...you wouldn't happen to have any old Custom Made Missions for the old classic Jane's 688I H/K would you? I"ve downloaded a few from Subsim.com but would like to have some more. I kind of prefer this classic over DW and Sub Command.

It's been a while since I uninstalled DW so I had no idea about the new mod. I'll definitely check it out since I plan on reinstalling DW this week. Unfortunately I dont have any Coop missions for Jane's 688I H/K.

Thanks for the info!

I'm giving this sim a second look, as I've heard the mod adds more ships. I'm a surface combatant kinda guy (not that I don't enjoy dispatching the occasional sub). Do these mods add cruisers and frigates and increase surface warfare ops? I know, that may be a lot to ask, but it's my Q.

BTW- here's a link some of you may enjoy:

http://www.hfbd.com/ebook/

After numerous joystick problems, I'm giving modern naval combat sims a whirl. So far I'm enjoying Janes Fleet Command, tho I'm going to loko into improved graphics, skytex files and the like. But if I can skip all that for DW, I'll go with that... if I can also find time to learn all teh controls, of course.

Thanks for the link. Yup you're right they did add more ships. However, I don't have any details. The best think to do is ask the experts at Subsim.com Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I found a link that a user finally listed some of teh additions, but only one US ship, an older FF or DD or something, is listed... is there a difinitive list of add-ons somewhere? I've been over teh links pretty well.

Has anyone figured out a fix for the resolution and other issues? I remember installing it on my new pc and had a graphical problem with the user interface main screen that made it impossible to navigate.

I had Janes 688I, Fleet Command, Sub Command and as much as I enjoyed them, I honestly get lost in modern sub warfare. Its attractive to me and I've found ways to have fun, but sonar interpretation and solutions go way over my head. Guess I should just put my Jane's manual in the ol' throne room to read.

Coot, I don't have any problems but then again I'm still running Windows Xp. You might try asking at Subsim.com

Coot,I never got DW to run under Win 7 64 bit.I tried most things but eventually gave up.
I do however have a second disc with XP on it for older games, and it runs fine on that.

DW runs fine for me on W7 x64. I think I just had to change the compatibility mode to rode in win XP mode.

Coot, Dangerous Waters allows you to let the AI handle the brain work of sonar tracking and weapons solutions. For the price it's worth gicing it a try. Despite the dated graphics, I am still able to get into that Red October state of mind when I play this game. smile

Is DW difficult to learn? I remember trying the demo a year or so ago and had no idea what I was doing. Does it include any kind of tutorial?
I love the idea of this game, just don't know if I'd get frustrated learning it and walk away.

Think it will run on a netbook?

Without the printed manual open beside me, I don't think I would have ever gotten the hang of it.

I'm pretty sure it will. Even when DW first came out, it was not a game that was very demanding on pc hardware.

Does the manual come with the hard copy? I see it for $5 at Amazon.

The printed manual did not come with my hard copy. I had to purchase it separately.

Is that printed manual still available anywhere? Even with the dated graphics, this sim has so much to offer that I am trying it out again and wouldn't mind a manual in my lap. Also, the dated graphics are a plus when it comes to the fact that I can run it on my laptop.

Found it here:
http://www.subsim.com/dangeous_waters_manual.php

I haven't decided if I'm going to go ahead with this or not though.
$20 manual, $5-10 game. A little pricey for it all.

If you're into hardcore modern naval sims, nothing else comes close to DW. I say it's worth it.

The manual is an excellent all-round reference tome for submarine/anti-submarine warfare. Just treat it like any other book you might want on the subject. It is worth the price of two pulp fiction paperbacks, IMO.

Can't say I am yet. I love Battlestations, but that's an RTS and a quick play, not a hardcore simulation. I'm more and more intrigued by Silent Hunter and DW though, so I'm sure I'll move up to them sooner or later as my tastes keep changing.

And keep in mind that while DW is a harcore sim, you can delegate a lot of the duties to your AI crew while you are learning the game. IMHO, the hardest thing to do yourself is the TMA (Target motion & analysis).

Don't feel bad it took me all 3 games to learn how to drive an American sub decently. I'm still bad in the russian subs (and chinese). Horrid in the Frigate...god I am terrible in that thing. The plane I only end up doing recon and I suck with the chopper.
