Hello

I presently use a projector connected to my computer graphics card nVidia GTX280 via VGA input ( which they call RGB input )

Some projectors can now connect via 1080p for higher Native resolution - Can this form of connection =1080p - be used with computers?

TIA

1080p is 1920 x 1080, but I think only HDMI Will go that high. what Projector is it?? did you look in your manual they should have the specs and what Rez you can run from your PC to the Projector..

I have a DLP Projector and for my Projector it's MAX PC rez is
1400 x 1024. SO PLease Double check your Projector Manual for the PC Max Rez as they all vary from model to model..

DVI will do 1920x1080.

DVI-D(igital) "Single Link" will do 1920x1200 @60Hz.

DVI-D "Dual Link" will do 2560x1600 @60Hz. Some users who've bought a screen with a resolution above 1920x1200 possibly encountered this problem, either having a "Single Link" card, or a "Single Link" cable on a 'DL' card.

I had stated Only HDMI will do that, what I ment is Vs the VGA, Only a Digital connection will probally get you that high in Rez..

DVI and HDMI are Basically Identical except that HDMI can Pass Audio as well as Video and DVI ONLY does Video but they are Both Digital....

Sorry, didn't make it clear.
I am not meaning my present projector,

If I buy a projector with specs of native 1080p resolution, is it possible to connect my nVidia GTX card to it and thus get my sims to work using my a projector.
From what little i understand, it seems that such a projector uses a HDMI cable, but is there a HDMI output on the graphics card?= If not, I cannot use such a projector?
Or is that understanding of mine wrong.?

Well in that case you will need to find out which Projector you would like to buy, then Once you know the model number you will need to find an Online Manual on look in the specs..

Most Vid Cards have a DVI Plug so you can get a DVI to HDMI Plug online like Cablesforless.com..

Did you have a Paticular Projector in mind, I can check out the Manual if there is one to be found and check??

Also go here to locate models by user defines Specs:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/projectors.cfm

That is a Real good source for All things Projectors!! Will the Projector be in a Very Dark Room or Not ??

The nephilim - Hello and S!

Thanks for your reply and interest in my small problem. I presently use an XGA projector which creates a 137cm x 80 cm image with a throw of 210 cm. It is used in a darkened room ( the window blind is the screen ) . I play flight sims - STrikefighters, OFF, FSX and IL2 mainly.

Now that graphics cards can support 19xx etc resolutions ( I understand my nVidia GTX does ) I was thinking of upgrading to a 1080p Native resolution projector.
I was concerned that I would not be able to connect the output (DVI?) of the graphics card to the HDMI input of the projector.
I think now that I can do that via an adaptor- without loss of signal quality?
Can you confirm that and recommend such an adaptor , and indeed, if it isn't too much bother, some suitable projectors .
Would these be suitable ?

I live in the UK

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

TIA

Well you can just get a DVI to HDMI Cable.. it has DVI on one end and HDMI on the other..

Now like I stated before it may be a 1080P Projector the question is will it support that REZ on the PC..

You will need to find the manual look in the Specs for PC rez it can support each projector may be different..

Also you will need to decide if you want a LCD or DLP Projector..

OK - I'm with you on the cable. The projectors i am considering are the ones on the web page i indicated.

Reference this -
"Now like I stated before it may be a 1080P Projector the question is will it support that REZ on the PC..

My graphics card will support as follows - this is from the cards website
Maximum Digital Resolution 2560x1600

So, if i get one of the PJs shown on the webpage and the necessary DVI - to HDMI cable, then i should get such resolution when i play the sim - if the sim supports such resolution?

cheers
