I have "fun" with Suncom SFS + Bu0836 + Allegro A1302 HALL sensor.

Trouble: The travel of Suncom levers is too big, around 110/120 degrees - original slid pot move 30mm!

With some linkage like model airplanes reduce movement to ~60 degrees:



Two 4x4x4mm magnets is fix opposite around tube section of Bic pen, and HALL inside tube. The tube - and magnets - turn around the HALL.

Tested in IL-2 with BU0836 (and Mjoy16) controller, work fine, power increments in 1% possible.

I have an SFS and stick up in the Buy / Sell forum if anyone is tempted...

Finally done.

Tested in FS9 and IL-2 work fine, in FS both throttle practically have the same response, in IL-2 put second lever as prop pitch.

The small PCB in upper left corner is only for plug wires, no active components.


This PCB have in left side plugs for 4 axis, in middle replicated Rows pins of BU0836 and in right Columns pins.

Put Bu0836 inside F-15 joystick and use two multi-wires cables between joy and throttle, one for axis, another for buttons. Only found cable with 12 internal wires - so i need use two.

Holes for buttons and LEDs intend for original Suncom programing are covered whit some plastic sheets.



I have two axis and 20 buttons in SFS - and two axis and 7 buttons left in BU0836, maybe put some extra toggle switch and pot with knob in front of SFS box...

Basic sketch of wires, SFS already have diodes in every button/HAT, so I reuse these diodes for BU0836 matrix, this simplified wiring - only the small PCB under gray thumb button require some modification.



If use one BU0836 exclusive for SFS is easy to make this MOD.
The use of HALL sensor is due lack of potentiometers options in local market. I found only cheap ones or very expensive (~25/30U$) Alps, bourns in Farnel, and no appropriated dimensions. The pot in SFS (120k) are very big.
The HALL plus magnets cost around 3U$ each.

Is there much backlash?

Did get the proportion of the linkage/reduction empirically or calculated? I mean, did you have to tweak much to get the full voltage range on the sensor?

This arrange work very well, no backslash, the 1mm steel wire is fit tight in levers holes.

Reductions is empirically calculated in 2:1.
In the lever - made with PCB foil - on Bic section I make some holes, to allow adjust ratio.
The Z in middle of steel wire allow adjustment in length (type from model airplanes times).

To make things easy use RC model airplanes linkage.
Ie. Like this adjustable horn lever suggest by Agressorblue;

If you Suncom gear still working, Test keyboard emulation via PS2 cable. If OK you have option to hook only axis
into a USB controller and preserve buttons and HAT's ability to emulate key press and modes.

I don't have a suncom. A pair of joints and a bar was my plan for my scratch built quadrant linkage/reduction. For you to have tested and implemented this is a big plus. I was worried about the backlash and if, even with a z, it's minimal, the bar should do fine.
