Ok I uploaded a little teaser video that shows the warping. Please remember, this is early Beta and nothing in this video is final.

I will have a more proper Promo Video like I always do with combat footage later in the week.

Its another Lawnmower of death, loving the engine sound.....already sold. Well worth a fiver. Crap planes rock me to the very core of my being. I love them. band

Lovely video, woohoo is all I can say!

BTW I did some wing-warping myself today: in a glider from the Aerodrome de Namur! - I can even post a video too smile

Ok Jason, that's freakin' awesome! The mechanics of the cable, pulley, and wing warping is all visible. Such a verstatile engine this digital nature is.

If I remember correctly, like the DR1 it was an Anthony Fokker pinch, the DR1 from the Sopwith Tripehound and the E111 from the Morane Saulnier.
When I say I remember I had better make it clear. Old though I am, I wasn't around at that time.

Jason, btw, I have the impression that the propeller goes the wrong way around. Isn't the front of the blades supposed to be the straight-edged side? To me it seems that the curved side of the prop blades is in the front here. Would surprise me if that was the case.

Great addition Jason, thanks for listening to the community and delivering this plane.

But it was a copy of an older Morane, more or less, in any case as someone pointed out, and it should be quite inferior to the DH2 and the Nieuport 11. For example, the N11 was one of most brilliant and advanced designs of WW1 for it's time, far better than anything else in late 1915 to early 1916, when the Fokker E3 entered service. It should be crappy in comparison.

It only ruled the skies because it and it's predecssors had synchronised guns, and it's oppostion was mainly obsolete bombers/2-seaters.

Freycinet, I think you're just noticing the peculiarities of design back then. Engineering incorporated as much art as science (more so in many cases) at the time, and I think a lot of aerodynamic shapes were dictated more by the designers' aesthetic sense than by any standardized scientific data.

Our DH-2 has a similar prop shape, with the leading edges showing a lot of curve. I was a bit confused at first, but spending some time observing the blades' pitch referenced to direction of rotation tells me they're going the right way. Also, the metal guards near the tips are on the leading edges.

Now, I did have a few confusing moments and heard some wires frying in my brain when I fired up the ROF UserViewer to observe the animated DH-2's blades move there...till I went back and watched them in-game: the viewer has the rotation wrong (clockwise as viewed from the rear), and given the pitch of the blades, air should be moving towards the nose!

In-game they move correctly (anticlockwise as viewed from the rear) though it is odd to see those curved leading edges when looking with modern eyes.

Sample vintage pic of the Eindecker looks the same as ROF's, prop spinning anticlockwise as viewed from the front, with curved leading edges.

I wonder if the wings will bend when you don't want them to? Unwanted wing flex was the major issue with these early wing warpers. It was much better to make a stiff wing and fit rigid ailerons, then pilot new that his inputs would be reproduced reliably at the wings.

Its easy to see why wing flex was a problem, look at the vid, there's very little to stop that wing bending due to outside forces. Accurate flight must have been very difficult, in windy conditions these things must have been just dangerous to fly.

Thx for the pic gunloon. Yes, it indeed seems that the curved edge is towards the front, interesting!

Also funny, given this discussion , that the Eindecker in the picture is said to be for rückenflüge, which creatively could be taken to mean "for flying backwards" (but here most probably means inverted flight) smile

Flies pretty good for wing warping and full flying tail! ..... Enjoy!
