Want to play ArmA2/OA at a decent UK/EU friendly time? Then look no further!

19.00 UK/20.00 CET this Sunday will be the first try out of the first SimHQ European time-zone ArmAII/OA Multiplayer (SEAM). We will hold the first one this coming Sunday (18th July). We will meet up on the SimHQ TS server at 18.50 to give enough time to set up.

I know the day/time might not work for everyone but if there is enough interest we could try another weekday night as per the official sessions. Alternatively if no-one turns up then we might switch to a different day/time altogether.

To join in you need to have the standard SimHQ install (a combined ArmA II/OA install) patched to the correct version and also the required SimHQ downloads:

Not sure what maps etc we will try out but I'll come up with a decent idea before Sunday.

Also, as per the SimHQ etiquette, I am keen on playing with others who have a 'basic military idea' what to do (but then I dont need to tell you that, right?!) rather than FPS addicts. I'm a bit green myself and eager to learn too!

Although I am happy to act as co-ordinator I know naff all about actually playing ArmAII really, so we will need all the help we can get!

I have plans for tomorrow evening so I don't think I can make it, but will try to be on next weekend.

Gonna try to be there this sunday. I won't be able to make it the next few weeks because of the holidays. But hope that this sticky will be a good start to get a regular meeting point when the holidays are over!

I am a complete newbie to ArmA 2. I have had it for what seems like an age but the difference between it and a standard run a gun FPS has floored me everytime that i have tried it.

I love the thought of a "sim" military game (which is why i bought it initially)but should i try and get used to the game mechanics offline before joining any multiplayer party or do you think i could pick it up enough to not get in the way on a Sunday evening?

Ahh.. re reading the initial post it think i should have a bash offline 1st. maybe i will join you sometime down the road.

Have a go at a few armory practices, to get to know some weapons and the controls. Then it's "GO!" for MP and try to stay alive.

I'll try and be there for a bit tomorrow, at least for ya'lls start before I have to go to work. Can hopefully help get things running smoothly. BTW all those who are new, jump right in, the water is fine. If you can move, aim and shoot in the game you are probably gonna be just fine at the start. Just pick a fireteam slot and follow your leader. That's where I started from lol.
Best way to learn is with other people.

Very cool. I really hope this works well and you guys get a good turnout. Makes me crazy (crazier) that the server sits there waiting for action most of the time. I know lots of our European readers would like to play.

So far I've received no PM's from anyone claiming to be leadership of this group.

Thus, I'll post a few pointers in general.

SimHQ Mission Titles
On the SimHQ mission titles, you'll notice a naming system that indicates how many playable slots are available. Some examples:

SHQ MEU Raid 01 (24) -- The schema we used during ArmA2. This is a Marine Expeditionary Unit Raid mission type, for 24 players max.

(ARMY 8-10) Air Clearance -- The schema we use starting with OA. This is an Army mission named "Air Clearance" suitable for 8 to 10 players.

Often, you can make some logical assumptions about mission size for smaller groups. An 8 player mission is likely two 4 man fire teams. This can be staffed with 2 groups of 3 players, so suitable for 6. Similarly, often a 12 man mission is good for 9.

Observe the playable slots for what appears to be mission critical assets. Things like Demolitions (satchel charges) or AT/AA units... Assume the mission maker put these here because they will be needed, and staff them ahead of less critical roles.

Server Commands
One player needs to be the server admin. Make this decision, then vote him in using the following command typed into the chat window:

#vote admin adlabs6

...replace my example name "adlabs6" with the chosen player name.

The player who is currently admin should keep watch for when players have completed all objectives, but the mission doesn't end with a "MISSION COMPLETE" fade to black. This happens for countless reasons which I will not detail.

Anyway, if you waited 30 secconds after completing all objectives and no ending, just type the following in the chat window:

#missions

Other common issues with some server commands:

#reassign
#restart

These seem like they would make easy the tasks of reassigning mission roles, or simply restarting the current mission. Alas, they are not perfect. More often than not, a handful of players will get stuck at a "Wait for host" screen while others progress perfectly fine.

In this case, everyone who got stuck has to hit ESCAPE and rejoin.

Sure fire work around is to never use those commands. Use #missions instead, and do any slot reassignment or mission restarting from there.

Quick recommendation. Everybody should try and connect to the server beforehand if possible. And load up a simple mission just to see if you are set up correctly. I will be on and off SimHQ's TS for the next hour or so so if anyone tries and needs help I can give a hand.

I am using Team Speak 3, will we be using TS or the in game comms ?

both, as I understand it TS is for a global comms channel, whilst we use the in game VON for side or squad comms.

But I think the SimHQ TS server is on TSv2, maybe anyone else can help out? I use Teamspeak 2.

Its 7pm UK and I appear to be the only person ont he TS server and the SimHQ ArmA2 server. I presume this is a washout this week?

Bit of a cross posting - but if any Euro/UK (or any North American players) interested in a bit of small squad co-op action - we had a great session at 6pmGMT (1800HRS ZULU) today with five of us in a squad playing the Hurt Locker - a v intense urban co-op mission.

Orginal intention was to jump on the SimHQ server for this Euro Arma2/OA meet but for some reason couldn't see it in the browser.

All welcome to join next week at same time/place as well.

The Hostage rescue mission started to be very intens at one moment, me snipping the right flank getting out of ammo, the enemy pushing, our taxi home landing in a HOT LZ, when I find out that you and all the hostages were already dead

Yep, they were playing yesterday. They meet on the SimHQ TS but use a private server. Just filter for server containing the word "SimHQ" and you'll find it (when it's running).

Yes we are still playing.

The OP moved away and is now not running the sessions - but since then I've been hosting an ad-hoc Euro (and US/North America) session most Sundays at 1800GMT.

Since we have been playing custom missions (and not sure of SimHQ ARMA2 admin stuff) we have been using my wheezy pc. But meeting/using SimHQ TS.

If there is anyone in our little group (looking at you - fatty ) who does know how the official SimHQ server works then that would be great - (the last time we played the dynamic Insurgency mission people got spawned all over the shop - which might have been down to my rubbish connection....

Thanks for the game tonight guys. Was that mission set on your PC LordFlashheart? It was ok, most of the time - except for the helicopter - that was very choppy(LOL).

The guys saved me from being wounded and surrounded by bad guys - one was right next to me but didn't kill me. Scary stuff!

Me and Ghost_unit13, played a couple of missions on SimHQ server - it is good fun, but we need more people.

Maybe we need another night - people are usually busy on Sunday evenings...

How about doing it on a Monday? An European MM After all we could use the server at a different time. And if some Americans join early for their MM - it will be a win-win situation

I have a vague idea of how the server works - I played some of the missions are already there. Half the fun often is to figure out what you have to do But often that means you are facing a large force. Not impossible though, as punisher5555 can confirm

Hi jdbecks - umfortunately I have RL stuff to take care of today - but if you jump on SimHQ TS around 1800hrs GMT ans see either Bagher or Ghost there - they might be up for a game.
