Hello, and congratulations on your well deserved promotion. ROF is a premier aeronautic time capsule. It goes beyond basic simulators where flying a Bf109 appears little different from a Mit Zero or P51. Besides the technical intricacies, it is beautiful.
So my first question has been answered in part by visiting this portion of SimHQ. I normally focus on ROF, attempting to follow the some times petty, often interesting threads, that discuss the simulator as though it were a fine wine or whisky. Here, I confirmed that "777 Studios" of ROF is the same developper as rFactor and Turismo Carretera. A correct assumption? If so, I have found updates and MODS for rFactor, largely at FileFront. I have not found anything similar for Turismo Carretera Gold. Is there a link available.
Second question. I have owned ROF since late last summer. As an early adopter, I was frustrated by the stammering "call me Rick" flying lessons. In latter releases/upgrades, Rick is gone. Has he been reassigned? Where are the basic game files? I have all the planes released for ROF and with that my revision level is current to the latest upgrade.
However, I did purchase the Iron Cross Edition, largely for the excellent collateral material. As for the game, will I damage my current install if I try to copy over the CD files over the download version?
The CD did confirm that ROF is a processor hog, much like FSX. Primarily for ROF I upgraded my system to a dual core Intel 3.2Ghz supported by a GFX850, with 3Gb of DRAM accessible over the "Gigabyte" motherboard. The program now runs very smoothly even with full graphic specifications.
What do I gain, if anything, with a CD setup with ICE? I have all the planes and being an early adopter, all the patch history installed. Do I receive any special maps? Better single or OffLine performance? Having not investigated the game menu intensively, are the 'Hat and the Ring' and 'Du doch Nicht'campaigns already included with my electronic download installation aleady?
Again, I appreciate very much your collective work on this program. It is in recognition of this that I purchased ICE. The collateral material of maps, keyboard map user guide are worth the investment. But first glance review of the CD box set raised some personal questions which I hope you can address.
Best Regards,
5555,
You ask a bunch of questions so I will be brief.
I am not the developer of rFactor or Turismo Carretera. I was the publisher of Turismo Carretera, but it is now out of print and there are scant copies left on the market. It was based on the rFactor engine, which does have a ton of mods, but Turismo does not. I am not the publisher of rFactor and do not represent that company in any way.
I think you are referring to the Training Campaign in ROF. It is still there. It is under Campaigns.
You won't damage anything by installing ICE over anything, but it is not necessary. Just update your current install and you have ICE. But to get the planes found in ICE you'll need to register your key-code for ICE with a new email and password. The planes are connected to the account and key-code, not your install.
You already have all the game content found in ICE, there is no advantage other than the addditional planes out of the box and the new art in the box. What you have now are two fully functioning copies of ROF. Feel free to give one account to a friend or use one account to host multiplay server etc.
I suggest you fire up the game and poke around in the menus to discover what is there. Or read the manual found in ICE. It gives a good overview of the content that is in ICE.
I'm glad you have ROF running smoothly. That is always good to hear.
