Mostly I'm a Race sim guy but all those banner ads have me in the mood for a WWI flying sim. Couldn't decide between RoF and OFF so thought I'd load up OFF phase 1 that I had from a few years back.

I now have a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Loaded CFS3 right enough with all the required patches then went to load OFF phase 1. Went to start it and got the dreaded MSSTDFMT.DLL error. I have that patch and put the .dll in system32 as instructed and got the following error message.

<<The module "msstdffmt.dll" may not compatible (sic) with the version of Windows that you're running. Check if the module is compatible with an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of regsvr32.exe>>

I did search here and else where on how to manually register a 32-bit .dll in a 64-bit machine and got the comand line prompt info and to place the .dll in SysWOW64 folder. I ran it from the comand prompt and got the following error message.

<<The module "msstdfmt.dll" was loaded but the call DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c>>

Tried to run that error message to ground and came up with no love.

I recognize that OFF phase 1 is hopelessly out of date and not supported but I'd like to get it up and running just to get back into WWI flight Sims while I:

a) decide between OFF and RoF (oh, who am I kidding I'll probably get both;
b) order and wait for the disc of OFF Phase 3; and
c) search for the boxed version of RoF:ICE locally.

But seriously my other worry is that OFF phase 3 will have issues with Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks

Rudeboy

There were (are) various problems with Phase 1. See if someone in Canada can send you Phase 2. You can put in a request on the other site. It's much better and it has no issues with W7 32_64.

Phase 3, Between Heaven and Hell and it's payware update, Hat In the Ring both run flawlessly under W7 32_64

Thanks almcc. Hi Rudeboy. Yes OFF runs fine under Windows 7 and Vista, there are some settings you may need for some people (some need xp compatibility mode set for off manager and cfs3.exe - see our FAQ) but I was running P3 as many others are on Windows 7 64bit and 32bit, and now run P4 dev on Windows 7 64 bit no problem.

See Question 6 in the FAQ.

this seems to apply to various sims made before Windows 7 appeared, but they all seem to work OK with tweaks smile
