Does anyone know of where I can purchase a game port to USB adaptor? (if there is such a thing available)

I have an older style Hotas (with a male game port connection) and Im hoping to change it or adapt it to a USB connection so i may use it on my computer without having to install a card just to use the game port.

@Dropbearz:

Ayup, what Sokol1 said.

What HOTAS is it that you have?

I can certainly understand wanting to avoid adding a card in to get a gameport. Are you just wishing to avoid the cost, or is it an issue with card slot availability on your motherboard, or ???

Do you have a sound card installed currently, or are you using something else (mobo's on board sound, or an external USB sound card)?

Which Operating System are you running?

Gameport-to-USB adapters generally only work with ANALOG gameport interface sticks.

Digital gameport interface sticks-the sort that tend to have far more than four buttons and/or axes without having any sort of keyboard connector-won't work. (What complicates matters further is that Microsoft, Logitech, Saitek, etc. all used different digital gameport interfaces, and so far, there are only converters for the MS SideWinder 3D Pro, possibly the first-gen Precision Pros without hardware USB support as well.)

(One day, I'll have a way to get those WingMan Interceptors running through USB...one day...)

Gday CyBerkut

I may have been mistaken when i mentioned HOTAS... it maybe a analogue stick..Im not quite sure (since being a newbee at most of the jargon on here..LOL) Its a old stick,a thrustmaster top gun..told you it was old.
Since at this point in time I cant seem to get ahold of a Cougar of my own,and would have to wait for the new Warthog,I thought I could try and connect the old stick to get me by...not the same I know. (I do have my bro-in-laws cougar, which has to have one of the axis guides replaced due to breakage...waiting on the part)
So its either stay grounded until the new Warthog, wait for the part to come for the cougar and end up giving it back to the Bro-in-law..or import a new cougar at less price from the states. If I wait, the wife says I can buy the new one, regardless of cost....boy will she be shocked.

Yeah I wanted to avoid adding a card for the gameport, its not the cost at all,and definitly not the card slots avaialble.
Im running O/B sound from my MB with WinXP (SP3)

Its just not the same without some good flying equipment.

OK, if it is what I think it is, that is a just a simple ol' analog gameport stick. I would expect that to work with most of the USB to Gameport converters out there (although they are getting harder to find). You may discover that for what a converter will cost you, you could buy a new el cheapo USB joystick that is on a par with (or better than) that TM Top Gun... and save yourself some potential hassles/headaches.

Good luck!

With the Saitek X52Pro twist grip rudder, the pedals are optional for rudder control. So, one could buy the X52Pro, use it, and see if pedals are even necessary. I have the X52Pro and don't use pedals with it (I do use pedals with my Cougar).

The X52Pro is the most HOTAS for the money, I think. Though that need not be one's criterion.

Having used the CH fighterstick, Pro throttle and Pro pedals (Whisk comes with inserts so they can double as speeder and brake pedals in car games) for 5 years, I have been extremely happy, never had any issues and a few months ago I purchased the Throttle Quadrant from CH aswell (good for the A2A B17 and other airliners), In my opinion you will never go wrong with CH gear. That being said because in a knucklehead for realism in flightsims I have just preordered the Thrustmaster Warthog, mainly because I want to use it for DCS: A-10C when it is released and as a secondary reason the dual throttle will make stuff like FC 2 and the VRS Superbug a lot more fun to fiddle with.

You could try visiting the CH-hangar and check that place out aswell
