Coup de Grace - Add-on for Munro's RB3D patch "Russian Civil War" - by Greybeard - 19 June 2010
FOREWORDS
This work is named after Marguerite Yourcenar's novel.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Collapse of russian empire in 1917 and consequent Bolshevik ruling gave room for a myriad of big and small political problems that involved even more groups than those which acted during the whole WWI. Nationalism, imperialism, restoration and worries for emerging leftists, pushed a lot of nations, as well as so far unknown ethnic and political entities, to fight and conquer part of the dying Bear.
Deployed along a front going from Black Sea to Baltic, opponents had to deal with great distances and few airplanes. Types that were obsolete elsewhere, still here had an useful military function. As pointed out in 1997 by Robert Craig Johnson: "The nature of the fighting was such that reconnaissance became the primary function of aviation in these conflicts. Good intelligence was at a premium during confused flanking actions in open country and in mad dashes along rail lines. Most of the two-seaters thus served as aerial scouts or cavalry. Supply shortages were the main limit on aerial action".
FEATURES
New flight model and damage model. Plane models have been updated too as well as some textures. A proper "MissGen.txt" has been added to make it playable with Pat Wilson's MissionGen. Aircrats specifications that you can read in game are actual ones; date of appearance is not set to historical time but just add 2 years - e.g.: 1917=1919! Replaced Nieuport 24 with the more historical 24bis.
