Finally bought a copy of Master and Commander, if I don't like it I blame you guys!

Also reading (again) Mirror of the Sea by Joseph Conrad and Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams.

Good stuff. Can't go wrong with Patrick O'Brian. Let us know how you like it! smile

How is that Douglas Adams book? I have never heard of that particular book of his, but all the other ones I've read are hilarious biggrin

I am currently reading All This and Sailing Too by Olin Stephens, the legendary yacht designer and co-founder of Sparkman & Stephens, designers and constructors of some of the world's most famous sailboats. Just a couple of chapters into it, but I can already tell it's a must for anyone interested in sailing, and especially those who smile and see images of beautiful sailboats in their minds when they read this smile

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Lee Child's "61 Hours", the latest Jack Reacher novel, Next Clive Cusslers "The Spy" an Issac Bell mystery.

(My wife has tried to wean me off reading history, it has diverted my attention but not entirely).

Para, best advice would be to step away from Master and Commander. Get someone else to carefully pick it up and with your receipt return it to the seller. Otherwise you are in imminent danger of having something like 17 more books eat your brain and your life for a long time to come.

I'm already half through Master and Commander and am really enjoying it, great read indeed.

yep

@Semmern: Last Chance to See is an excellent book, it's basically Douglas Adams and zoologist Carwardine searching around the world for exotic, endangered species. It's a 'serious' book, as far as anything written by Adams can actually be considered 'serious', and a joy to read.

I've just about finished The Desert Spear by Peter V. Brett. It's the second book in the Painted Man fantasy series. I've really enjoyed both books. The plot moves along at a steady pace, the characters are well fleshed out and there is plenty of action.

Still reading Bad Sciece. And a large packet has arrived with, among others, Bill Bryson's latest book!, At Home.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I still need to get my hands on a copy of With the Old Breed. I read Helmet for my Pillow about 2 months ago and haven't really picked anything up since.

I loved it. It's actually the second time that I've read it and it's definitely a book to get you stoked up to boot up any sim that has the A-10 in it. It's very well-written with tons of personal accounts of what it was like to be a Hog driver in Desert Shield/Storm.

Black Cross Red Star. I could never convince myself to spend the money but combat99 sold it at a price I could stomach.

Thanks, I've been interested in that book for quite some time now, will get it with my next Amazon order.

Nice Haul!

2 of the books on your want list are still on mine too....

"Helmet for my Pillow" and "With the Old Breed", along with both of the first two of the Rick Atkinson trilogy; "An Army at Dawn" and "Day of Battle."
