Hey all, just putting an idea i had while reading in multiple posts the same questions being asked over and over again. To help clean up and de-clutter this forum i think we should agree on an install process and put a sticky up for 1.13. This is my proposal: Installing from stock CD using Dfang's instructions: 1.Install EECH 2.Install 1.4.1C patch 3.Run EECH 4.Install 1.13.0 All Mods Also install OpenAL if you don't have. (must have installed for sim to run!) Installing all-mods if you bought from gog.com: 1.Install EECH 2.Run EECH 3.Install 1.13.0 All Mods Also install OpenAL if you don't have. (must have installed for sim to run!) With either version you need to go into your EECH.ini located in your "cohokum" directory (C:\Razorworks\cohokum) and change theese settings to get the updated graphics: dwash=1 texture_colour=2 texture_filtering=1 mipmapping=1 dynamic_water=1 persistant smoke=1 high lod hack=1 Persistant smoke and high lod hack are optional but if you have a higher end machine i would highly suggest turning theese on. Tree shadows i would suggest leaving off as they seem to interfere with the FLIR/DTV systems. Also, make sure on load up screen that version 1.13 and GWUT1130.CSV are displayed. I ran into a couple of cases including my own so far where when upgrading from 1.12.3 or older versions, the WUT file was not updated automatically. You must delete or rename your old WUT file and go into your EECH.ini and change this line to read this: [WUT] # for more information see http://www.eechcentral.com/wiki/index.php?title=WUTwut=GWUT1130.CSV # Weapons and Unit Tweaking file (n = filename) Hopefully this helps out the new guys just getting into EECH. Ive heard around the net that some folks are staying away from it because of the problematic install process. Thats a shame as they are missing out on one of the best heli-sims out there! Everything ive put in this post is a culmination of other post and my own experience so far. I understand that no ones system is the same but i think if we can come up with a "standard" it will help diagnose problems easier maybe? Just my thoughts

As far as I know it's not necessary to run EECH at any point during the installation (unless something has changed in 1.13).

How about the definitive instructions on upgrading from an existing most recent all mods and exe install? I've hesitated after all the posts on troubles with the 1.13. And getting lost on what the current EECH version is, apart from All Mods.

Hey Eugene, i personally had no problems upgrading from 1.12.3 to 1.13. All i did was download 1.13, delete .INI, delete WUT1120, THEN install 1.13 package and good to go. Make sure that you create a new pilot after installing and running for the first time to avoid problems. Anyone find something im missing by chance?

I think the Wiki just needs updating. Kassi and others put a lot of input into that Wiki and it a wealth of information for new pilots. Perhaps we need a sticky pointing to an updated EECH Wiki. ps- Come to think of its its already there hehe

Hi everyone.
I like EECH and would like to somehow enjoy your mods. I was reminded again this evening why I have usually stayed away from any modded sim, they suck away many hours of my time because there is not a path of success to follow. So I am left with guesswork and trial and error to get any of this stuff going. I do the research and apply the best advise..... CTD I have installed EECH and the latest mods according to these instructions...CTD
1) Install EECH original 2) Install the latest mods eech-allmods-1.13.0.exe
I get only immediate CTDs when running the program. The real problem for me is the variety and quality of install instructions. The advise on this forum conflicts with itself and leaves me wondering if anyone knows what they are doing. Some people say run it after install and before the mods, others say DO NOT run it Nowhere do thes simple instructions say you must have openAL and yet others insist you must have it. Now what's a reasonable investment of my time to try all this stuff 10 hours? 20 hours?... more?
I have EECH2 installed, does it matter? I have Zeckensacks Glidewrapper installed, does it matter? XP SP2, ATI radeon 9800 pro 128, 2 meg ram, AMD XP 2400+
Some thoughtful advise would be appreciated.

Hi Diesel,
I think, and have made this point here already, the problem is that we have lots of people doing mods but nobody actually with an overview of the whole thing.
From my own experience you DO need OpenAL installed.
When I initially got the dreaded CTD I had to delete the .ini and .cfg files in th cohokum directory and let the game recreate them.
That solved the problem for me.
Hope this helps,
Andy

Andy,
Thanks for your response.I will try your CTD fix. Is this fix referenced anywhere else on this forum or is it yours? Should it be put into the general "troubleshooting" bag?
Have a great day, Thomas Plummer

Hi Thomas,
The requirement for OpenAl came from Firebird who modded the game to 1.13.0
The other stuff I just found here by trawling. i did try a lot of other things (reinstalls etc) before I found what worked for me. I think the problem is that we all have very different hardware\operating systems\drivers so there isn't a definitive fix when a problem arises.
Good luck,
Andy

Thanks Andy,
Seems very much like custom made shoes. I guess my expectations are based on other flight sims like Janes WW2 Fighters which just works on anyones machine with no try-it-and-see aspect.
The other thing I suspect is that people who post that they have no problems running a heavily modded sim wish to hide the many hours they put in to get to that point, thus making it appear rather easy and simple to just get going in a few minutes. I think a better approach would be "If you want this stuff be prepared to invest loads of hours to get it running". type of advise from the EECH community.
Gentlemen, please give it to us straight.... even if it sounds like hell.
Best Regards

Hi Andy,
Good news... forth install worked.
I followed the manual instructions and found I was not patching the original install to 1.4.1C, which is included on the disk in the patch directory.
Now all is working nicely. Just spent an hour free flight and I must say it looks great.
Have a good weekend, Thomas

I read a while ago about the right CTRL, Shift, and Alt keys not working. I found a patch at EECH Central for 1.12.3 to fix it, but it doesn't work if I've installed 1.13.
Has anyone else found this problem re-occuring in 1.13?
