Hey Guys,

i'd love to play all those old gems like LB2, JF15, JF18 on their natural environment.

I think Win98SE would be the best selection. Maybe Multiboot with Win95 and MS-DOS.

Thats the easy part.

But i have no clue what hardware was high-end back in these days - had no pc back there.
I think a Pentium III with a voodoo card would be good, right ?

But what mainboard, soundcard, grafic card (exact model) would fit best ?

Thanks for any clues building a great retro gaming pc.

chris

Now what would have been a nice setup back the? Trip down memory lane, always in for that. A nice 440BX motherboard with a 600MHz PIII or an 815 wit a 1000MHz, 256MB ram as a foundation. Add a Geforce2 Ultra and 2 Voodoo3's in SLI, or the Voodoo 5500AGP as the ultimate desirable card. Sound card of choice was a Creative Labs AWE 32 Gold so it should still be easy to find, but the Gravis Ultrasound was also a competing sound card. I don't think these games used the Aureal sound technology, otherwise it would pay to look for one of the sound cards that used the Aureal tech.

I only had a PII 400 back then with an nVidia Riva AGP, so I could only dream of owning the high end gear.

Thanks smile

what about this Board ?
http://cgi.ebay.de/ASUS-CUBX-E-Rev-1-01-...=item1e5c6b5e3c

Do those boards have a 3.3V AGP Slot or already a 5V slot ?
I think i have a Voodoo 2 or 3 with 3.3V card somewhere...

Dunno, but it looks good. It isn't quite clear if the AGP is the 3.3V or 1.5 type. Voltages dropped upon higher versions, to 1.5V and 0.8V.

Whatever i found a 3.3V AGP Voodoo 3 in my stuff smile

So i'm hunting down ebay for some old intel 815 boards, that seem to support 3.3V AGP

Well if the younger 815's are still 3.3V, so would the older 440BX motherboards. smile

Although... the 815 will support the faster versions of the PIII that will go up to 1.4GHz. Have you found a suitable processor yet? It will kinda define what motherboard you can pick.

I currently placed a bid on this one :
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160442027911&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Comes with a 800 MHz PIII and some Ram.

Think its a good starter

Board supports up to 1 GHz.
