Haven't used QMB in a long, long time; but this 'should' work. Others with more QMB experience shuold probably chime in.....

Look in your conf.ini file for a section called "[quick]"

If you have this section, then add:

Customxx=352nd_Cross_Channel

...where xx is the next numbered map listed that is available.

Look and see if you have a folder under "Missions" called "Quick". This folder contains Red and Blue mission files that can be used by QMB+. 'Zack' at SAS made a couple of quick missions that go in this folder and you can get them here: http://www.mediafire.com/?enng5mkzgzg

Oscar, that method is bit out of date now if using the latest UP 2.xx mod package. Here's a more recent method of seeing this new map in action, using the missions Zack provided...

  • ... Download the small pack of two missions from the link Zack provided ( http://www.mediafire.com/?enng5mkzgzg ); extract those two missions into: '...\<your IL-2 folder>\Missions\Quick\'
  • ... You'll need to enable the "00_QMBPro_PAL" mod (if using UP 2.x and higher)
  • ... You'll need to edit '...<your IL-2 folder>\Quicks\QMBMaps.ini' file with the following:
  • Code:
    352nd_Cross_Channel
  • ... Select "Quick Mission" from the main menu, then select '352nd_Cross_Channel' as the map in the drop-down selection box.
  • ... The two missions Zack provides are only for the 'None' (head-to-head) mission type, no other missions types (Armor, Bridge, etc., etc.) are provided yet.

Is there a list of airfields that are included in this map?

Flying now by modding net missions using FMB and turning them into single missions. Beautiful countryside until you get in a scrap.

I am pretty sure they gave me a list a while back. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks,,,thats too bad that Raydon was not included. I asked for it because it was Monroe WIlliams ( http://www.rcwarbirds.com/Advisors/Histroical/Monroe.htm ) home field during the war. I even sent documentation and such to help.

AFAIK This is the 1940 Map. Raydon was operational in the later stages of the war

I've upgraded my game to HSFX v.4.1 and run the Channel Map install but can't seem to get it to show up in FMB. Where exactly are the files supposed to go with HSFX? In the readme it talks about the Mods folder but everything's been erased from there since I installed HSFX. Advice please.

Thanks!

Correct.
The last I read there were going to be three maps and this was the first one dealing with the early war years.
Raydon was not built until 1942 so it I am almost positive that was the reason it was left off this version of the map.

How does it hold up compared to Cannon's map?
I looked for screens but they seem sparse.......

Canon's maps have many more buildings on them - his London is magnificent. The 352nd's map was built for online coops etc, and hasn't any buildings in the cities - keeping load times down, frame rates up etc. I think the airfields on the 352nd's map are nicer, but Canon's are nice too, though I don't like the way he used a large bitmap for the airfield surface - it lacks detail, making judging height difficult.

It shouldn't be too difficult to take screenshots of the same scenery on the two maps, to compare looks. I'd do this myself, but my crappy PC won't really do either map justice.

Canon's map definitely has far more objects on the map and uses photorealistic scenery. I much prefer the terrain of 352's map, but I'm disappointed at the lack of objects. I would imagine others even talented people like Canon may at some point take the vast ammount of time required to put more building on the map.

I'm hopefull that the rumoured Booze map will be more detailed. I have no idea what map hes developing, but his work on the 352nd map was awesome before they had to trim back the details.

There are many folks working long hours to adjust and tweak the CCM as I'm typing this; their efforts are aimed at making the actors.static file smaller while retaining the appearance of the airfields. If the efforts are successful (and I have to believe they will be), populating some of the now empty areas while still retaining playability will be possible .... efforts are underway in those areas, too.

We will not populate the map with objects that generate map errors, that do not have sufficient LOD modeling, lack damage modeling, or are built using too many polys. That pretty much restricts object population to those already in the game.

This work is progressing nicely, was not planned for originally, and with luck will be available within a week or so. Er .... the thought "two weeks, be sure" comes to mind, but I won't say it. :-)

Great work on the map Persecutor. Really impressive. I've just started designing a campaign on this. Will the updated maps require a completely fresh start or will they overide the old one making it possible to continue my work on the one currently released?
