LOL how will this thing even make it to anything but offline play? Others with the payware could fly together but that is it.

I really couldn't careless what you guys do with your time, but you are misguided with the idea of trying to make a buck off this game. The main issue here is the misinformed idea that enough people care about the Pe-8 to make it worth the time and effort, not to mention the number of that segment willing to part with their money is even smaller.

This is the same delusion those guys at ED (Eagle Dynamics) creators of LOMAC had. They over estimated how many people really cared about the Ka-50 and thus DCS: Black Shark was a bust. Now they are returning back to basics with Flaming Cliffs 2 (which is the old game with a new "something", what that "something" is, I don't know). Psy06, Oleg saw the light by making IL-2 open source to a few and then let them create what the public wants, which is western aircraft. Seriously, what do we need another Petlyakov to add to the plethora we already have? Designing and Marketing are different departments in the corporate world for a reason.

Good luck, I will be here to tell you "I told you so!" wink

You need to re-read how this is going to be distributed. wink

As LukeFF says, X_MAN, you need to read what the thread actually says. Psy06 isasking for donations to help finance some work on a project that hopefully will get to be incorporated as part of an official patch. He isn't trying to make money, and neither will he be charging for it's use.

And as for 'what the public wants', I suggest if there is a wish for a particular aircraft, those concerned should look at doing something towards getting it incorporated themselves, rather than sniping at others. The legal restrictions resulting from the Grumman fiasco, and considerations over avoiding conflicts with SoW:BoB, preclude a few possibilities, but otherwise, what gets done will depend on the degree of useful input.

The Pe-8 is looking fantastic, and it's great to see how a community has come together to fund the virtual restoration of this Russian bear.

The only thing that scares me a little is Psy06's camo vest! :P

A bit of history if you will. Many people and not only the western audience, but unfortunately Russian too, believe that once the Pe-8 existed in very small series, this aircraft is something small for history. Indeed, this wild confusion. Pe-8 in combination with other cutting-edge at the beginning of the 41th year bomber Er-2 became the basis of the strategic bomber forces of the USSR. Two of the regiment who were armed only with these machines filled the elite of soviet aviation, there came the best of the best pilots, navigators, radio operators and mechanics of the USSR. I will not list names you do not know them, but for the history of aviation in general these people are legendary.

Some statistics: in the middle of 1941 to the end of 1944 Pe-8 made in 1509 sorties and dropped 5371 tons of bombs.
Pe-8 participated in all the key battles of the Eastern Front, attacked Berlin, Konigsberg, Dantsing, Helsinki and other strategic cities. Pe-8 was the bearer of superheavy soviet bombs and fist soviet cruise missiles, etc. Needless to say that the 3-party alliance treaty swung the entire course of the war and opened the way for the landing of the americans in Normandy in the 44th was signed by the flight soviet minister Molotov in England and the U.S. at bomber Pe-8 in early 42 year.
Not bad for an aircraft available only in the number of 93h items.

By the way, do you know all the emblem of a polar bear with a bomb (the only soviet emblem for bombers in the IL-2 sim) was the personal emblem of Valentin Akkuratov, one of the legendary soviet polar navigators. This logo was painted on the nose Pe-8 N4214. So this project in some ways the restoration of historic justice.

I can see no problems with this way for providing new content to IL-2. Those who want to can pay - I think I will - but everyone will hopefully benefit.

It's an interesting initiative. We'll see how it works.

Psy06, I haven't flown this WW2 sim but one day I will get around to it. Have you got a link for yor paypal details? I can send you a couple bucks... and I am all for projects like this.

Plus I lived in Vladivostok for many years, so I just want to lend a little support to a 'zemlyak'.

X-MAN, I think there are several layers to this -- first you probably underestimate how many flight simmers are in Russia/Ukraine/former CIS. Second, this is a labor of love for this guy, so it isn't purely about making a buck for him, and he can afford to be wrong about 'market share estimates'.

Seeing the count of ~ 9k tris for this stage so far, I would like to know what the figures are that TD gave you and your 3D artists which to work to.

Martin deals with this issue.

If I undestand correct you ask about newest tech specs? 10K tris max and 8 mb for textures max.

Are you sure?? There's a couple of nice PBYs in UP2.01!! Unless they were later done by someone else other than the person you donated to, there's a chance your money helped this project.
