THe lights stay on. Restarting the game doesn't do it. Have to restart TIR. It just all of a sudden stops tracking. This computer is a rebuild by a local computer guy. He over clocked the MB and the processor. Could that be it?

Sounds like a similar trouble I had...check your TIR 'pause' button assignment vs. your input commands in ROF. I couldn't take screenshots initially since 'print screen' was bound to TIR, which traps that function unless you disable trapping. I'd go to take a screenshot, but it wouldn't generate one, since TIR had trapped that key function I've since bound my TIR keys to joystick buttons used exclusively for those 3 functions and have had no further problems. Love. You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I've tested and made sure non of those things are happening. Man losing TIR really messes up the realism factor.

I suspect Musicman is on to something. Even at dusk here, light leakage hitting my TIR sensor makes it freeze, shift to weird views or otherwise go bonkers.
I pretty much restrict my flying to night...are you getting the same problems when it's full dark out?
Now, I use TrackClipPro, so the ideal TIR environment would be a room closed to daylight and where any light sources can't hit the sensor directly.
You might try turning up both the Status LEDs Brightness and Light Filter Threshold in the Camera tab as well. FWIW I also use the lower settong for IR Brightness in that tab, not sure if it's worth turning up too.
Speaking of, are you using the passive TrackClip reflector or the active TrackClipPro? Using the appropriate input button makes a difference.
Agreed that losing TIR messes everything up...when I try day flying I find myself shifting, shaking my head and making some very rude noises when it screws up.

It will mess up if light hits it I know. Bt this happens in total darkness too. It doesn't get shakey or wierd it just stops tracking and I have to use the mouse or tophat for the rest of the mission then quit the game and restart TIR.

Make sure Tir is plugged into your computer not a hub, I hear that can make a difference.

I am having much the same trouble with TrackIR as Coot wrote. I can start ROF as admin but TrackIR won't start that way at all - errors out with the suggestion to send message to MS.
I am on XP so this should not be an issue as it can be with VISTA.
Any ideas?

I reinstalled TRACKIR4 after uninstalling it, no luck. Tried it out on EAW and worked fine. Tried it out in WoP and no luck. Tried it out on IL2 and worked fine.
Maybe I should post on the trackir site.

Vincent, 4.1.028
Jason, I have kept to service pack 2. And I just installed according to the suggestions from the disk, so I do not know if I got all the MS libs that come with the disk.
