So after being told that the game will be supported it's now not going to be and we'll need to buy the sequel to get the stuff that was promised, I'm out.

Sequel will be much more online oriented, with unseen before level of supporting of user-genereatd mission. Online orientation doesn't mean that the game wont be playable in single-player.
* sequel will have lots of downloadable content addons from the begining. For example each location with planes from WoP will be presented as DLC (and it is going to be free for all users who bought WoP of course).
* sequel is going to have total 2-3 times more content then original WoP.
* we are planning to release sequel this year.

Hmmm, for me it will depend how much is 'free for all users who bought WoP' and how much they are charging to move to the sequel. I want desperately to like this game, but I have already paid 75 USD for game plus add ons: I was willing to pay an add on type fee to get the mission builder, but if I have to pony up the price again for a whole new game/sequel, I think I too will pass.

But if there is a special price for registered WoP owners, I may soften that stance...

It's funny you should say that I just made the same suggestion.

I think it's just great news. I had anticipated that the rework would cost much more than first thought and bought WoP for what it was then. It's worth its price in its present form, so if I get more later this year I don't mind paying more.

+1

Its is clear that WoP just wasnt commercially viable to redo almost completely, a new game will provide devs with more time and money which means more sim for us:) Great news!

I only hope they understand that second time round and with it being a new game the expectations will be higher still- simple missions editor will no longer cut it (by itself)- we need revamped FM and completely new DM, much better AI to name but three most important things. Otherwise-... it will be WoP history repeating.

It may be worth the money in it's current form, but that doesn't excuse the fact that people bought it on the promise of contiuned updates and support for the original WoP, a mission builder and dedicated servers being something that was said was in development a long time ago, now they tell us that we need to buy the sequel for those things, that is NOT supporting the original WoP as previously mentioned.

Yes, they did promise, but they also said "if we achieve even 1/10 of IL2 sales" (or something similar)! And when you buy, you buy a finished product, patches are ONLY a nice bonus. Even Il2 has released something like 15discs during its span. The "everything DLC" RoF path is another alternative, but one cant expect big labor-intensive patches for free for game's lifetime when games sales dip( which something some wop buyers do- not directed at anybody particular)!..

I stopped expecting anything really from WoP after the "spring mega patch" debacle, but I do understand that money (as usual) was close to the centre of problems...

Its a good thing if they rethink, redo ,remap, redesign the core parts of WoP and release it as sequel, there is plenty of material there that is just too good to go to waste.

That came later, so no.

Patches are a nice bonus, promised content is promised content not a patch and no, a lot of us did not buy a finished product, we bought a beta with a lot of unfulfilled promises.

Glad to hear of a sequel, I never pay attention to promises

I got exactly what I was expecting; a fun game
