Très bien. We'll be able to push those shadows out more when we update the engine and work on the dynamic LOD function.

Looking at the pictures of the compounds I can just envision it now.An A-team forms a perimeter around one and enters looking for weapons caches as you establish an orbit above for recon & support.Could get rather interesting.:)

Nice to see a new sim with all these updates coming. What a contrast to some other efforts that seem to take forever.

This one looks like it will actually make it to the harddrive.

Note #13

The terrain has continued to evolve with lots of compounds and villages now placed throughout the map. The density of vegetation has been increased along the greenzones.

Some tongue-in-cheek advertising billboards have been built and will be placed along the roads.

Telegraph poles have been laid across the map and will be connected at some point.

There are multiple river-crossing points along the main greenzone. This is a concrete bridge south of herat. The rest of the bridges are stone.

A 3D bomb crater. Varying sizes of crater will appear on the terrain depending on the calibre of ordnance fired.

Cheers

Shindand airfield is being built. It's an old soviet airbase south of Herat. In our campaign it will be modernized and used by NATO forces.

You made a Longbow sans-dome. Either that or it's a glitch I've not seen smile

I could add a lua property to the Longbow to flag it as having the FCR and radome. done

Stabiliator motion added too.

Yeah Portal has an amazing and original gameplay. Love it.

Can you add a "cheat" for us to shoot cakes instead of hellfires? :P Would be darn funny as a Easter egg.

Love the screenies, guys. Great stuff (as usual).

Note #15

Camp stone has been rebuilt. Other than a new gate, it was resurrected in an almost identical fashion to the original setup. Eerie. New additions include a basketball court. Bet you never played a flight sim that let you shoot hoops.

The real city of Herat is a brown blob. Lots of walled compound-esque homes tightly packed within a grid system. There's very few buildings that extend up past 5 or 6 floors. The tallest buildings are the minarets.

The base layer of buildings is being added in. Luckily the engine supports instancing which mercifully prevents this kind of scene grinding graphics cards to dust.

Lots more to do. Parks, stadiums, mosques, fortresses etc

Cheers

I'm blown away with the scenery. Can I fly it now?

Really great work. I have a question, what is the planned world dimension? And what is going to be it's limits and how those limits interact with the player. Let me give you an example so it is easier to understand my questions. In ArmA 2 world they made like a infinity terrain or infinity ocean (sea), meaning you can fly to the infinity, although there is not any purpose for that. I think that in Lock On or DCS they do this kind of trick too.

Best regards and amazing work and effort. Keep it up... Please. :P

The terrain is just over 40KM x 40KM, which at first glance appears to be a bit on the small side. I'm reliably informed that it's the same size of the Longbow 2 map, and so far it feels suitable.

Good question about interaction with the map limits. Being able to fly to infinity is probably the best option. We'll have to wait until the engine is developed further before we know exactly how the edges will be handled.

Cheers
