Never played EECH online in all these years and now would like to but wondered if it is easy to set up a server and have someone join.

Is it a campaign with players flying alongside each other? Can you share the same helo as front and back seaters?

Ive got a v1.13.0 test server up and running for the next couple of hours.

**Note** v1.13.0 appears to be broken regards reporting to master, so you wont see it using Hoxdna, but I can conect via LAN.

If anyone with their ports and firewalls correctly setup for EECH would like to test an internet connect and report success fail here it would be appreciated IP- ***********

Server is offline now. IP removed.

Hi Chad

To join a multiplay game you first need to forward the Directx7 ports as follows-

Port -- Process -- Protocol -- Direction
47624 -- cohokum.exe -- both1 -- both2
2300-2400 -- cohokum.exe -- both1 -- outbound

Also you will have to allow "Cohokum.exe" and "Directplay" helper to pass through your software firewall. No need to search for these as when you first attempt to join a server your firewall will ask permission.

Once you have that done you just need a fly buddy. One of you host buy not entering any IP in the multiplay options and the client will enter the server IP. That all done then the server you entered will show up in the "campaign multiplay" selection. If server does not show then either the server or host has not configured their firewall correctly. We used to obtain host IPs from Hoxdna, but a recent patch has broken the server reporting. You can fly Red or Blue with other human players easy enough.

All that being said once your setup up its as simple as-

1. Hook up with friend on TS or Vent
2. Decide who is hosting and circulate IP
3. Host starts campaign and others join in

In the past we fly both EECH and EE2 extensivly in multiplay until DCS was released. Pretty quiet these days though.

Are you sure it's EECH which broke it, and that it's not the hoxdna server which is broken? Does it show up at hoxdna if you use an older version of EECH to host?

1. Teamspeak or Ventrillo are optional, but if your going to fly multiplay its good to have live Comms with other players.

2. Portfording is done by logging into your router. Link- www.portforward.com

3. Windows Firewall will ask you for permissions the first time you run multiplay.

4. This is the only eech.ini edits

usemaster=1 # Report game to internet masterserver (0 = off/private game, 1 = on) (def = 0) (recommended = 1)
dwash=0 # rotor downwash (dust) (0 = off, 1 = on) (def = 1)

*Note- Downwash should be off for EECH multiplay, but can be left on for EE2 multiplay.

We miss each other in time zones a bit, unless im having a lazy Saturday or Sunday morning. Perhaps once youve proven your port forwarding you may want to look up Nephilim or Re-Ordained who are both very experianced EECH and EE2 multiplay pilots in your time zone.

Try logging into SimHQ TS now and then and see who is about. I fly with the pilot name of -=Bravo47=- If you see me in there say hello smile

ps- You can partially test your port forwarding by installing EECH on a second PC on home LAN. Start a campaign on one PC and try and join from the other.

Look up your router model number here- www.portforward.com

Forward the directx 7 ports to your lan ip address(eg: 192.168.0.1)- Ports 47624 and 2300-2400

Ive got my ports all set up and ready to go!! Thank you C K you da man!! Im on SimHQ team speak server now under "EECH TEST" if there are any players out there!!!

Oh im bummed, ports ARE forwarded correctly, server text is GREEN, however it keeps crashing and says there is a "directplay" error. Is this the result of our EECH.INI being mis-matched possibly?

Check this entry in your eech.ini

cgs=1 # force the comms to use DirectPlay guaranteed send instead of its own (0 = off, 1 = on) (def = 1)

Also we havnt tested EECH Multiplay yet using ver 1.13.0 apart from me testing it via LAN connect to server. So the problem may not be at your end.

My end may be broken hehe smile it was a good training exercise for you anyhow wink

My regular server PC has hardware issues ATM, i'll sort it out when my regular wingman fix's his v1.30 install.

Good to know youve hooked up with Nephilim, and youve got your install sorted. Perhaps we will hook up some time.

Looking forward to it thumbsup

Couple of questions also, does campaign commander need to be off or on if both on the same side or what if the other player is on the other team? Also, if im in the middle of playing a campaign lets say i post my I.P. on teamspeak can anyone still join or does it have to be a start from the beginning "NEW" campaign? Thanks all, i do have EECH 1.13 channel up on teamspeak now biggrin

Campaign Comander, GWUT, Formscomp etc are all determined by the host servers config as far as I know. Client side config doesnt matter except "downwash" should be set to off for multiplay.

Colonel,

Did you ever run a test with a previous version of EECH to confirm/deny that the non reporting issue was caused by the latest version of EECH? 1.13?

Just curious to know, if not, I can roll back my EECH to a previous version and see if it is working or not.

My server has been up and running all this time, but without the IP published it never gets any attention. If we can work out where the break in the reporting is, that might help some.

Hi AMRAAM

Im pretty sure now that the problem is at HOXDNA. I tried loading an EE2 server which did not report in either. I also had a multiplay session last weekend with Chaddog which went ok except for a couple of server crashes. One(Kenia) which I attributed to me neglecting to turn of my server PC's screen saver and antivirus, but Im unsure that was the real reason as a second crash followed not long after loading Skagway onto the server, which in the past, like Sword in the Sand has been rock solid for multiplay up to 4 players. Kenia has crashed in the past after around 2hrs of multiplay, so its not an ideal debugging map I guess.

In conclusion EECH v1.13.0 is quite functional, but the master appears to be bugged ATM. Whether EECH v1.13.0 is stable for multiplay is another question. This could be WUT related, or it could relate to people choosing the AH1-Z Viper(not confirmed of course) The reason ive tagged this is not because of Dfangs model, its because all non standard flyables have a bug which is still present relating to client input into the "right side" MFD of non standard flyables which causes a client end crash. whether it can cause a server end crash I dont know, I just have not ruled it out. In the past if I was flying, Blackhawks, Chinooks, etc I would avoid at all costs inputing/changing the right side MFD to avoid client end crash.

The EECH v1.13.0 update over wrote quite a few files that could be considered for debugging as follows-

1. cohokum.exe
2. Forms
3. Formscomp
4. WUT

Custom texture/audio mods such as Skins, Cockpits, Terrain, GUI, Sounds were lost if you cant find them in an older ver backup.

Theres also no referance to maps 14,16,19,20,31,35 in the "maplist.txt" either. This has always been the case, and I forget now what this file was used for.

My old install was completly cleaned of every broken file name entry eg: "Red sea" = Red_Sea etc. A few years back I went though every file name and every command line within the CHC files every campaign. The camo files, basically a whole bunch of modded files. Doing this I believe created a very stable server base and crashes were rare for me in multiplay in the past.

I havnt really flown this build enough yet to reliably comment about debugging multiplay apart from the info Ive noted above that I found out during the process of restoring my installation.

The Pro's of this build-

* Dfangs excellant new AH1-Z Viper --Thx to Dfang
* All of the campaigns are now availlable(appart from Norway which still crashes for me)
* Cockpit sound issue has been corrected --Thx to Firebird

Its a shame Spypat doesnt fly EECH, so we could use "Modman" to restore all our custom stuff following updates.

I tested the previous version (1.12.3) about a week ago. It failed to show up on HOXDNA with settings that have worked in the past.

I dont think the reporting to HOXDNA was a problem with the 1.13 release as my EE2 server never reported at HOXDNA either. Perhaps its been fixed, as I have not flown over the last week as ive been engrossed in a new RC Heli ive purchased.

You also need to upgrade the WUT file to 1130, just tried to join again, ill bet a beer that both 1120 and 1130 are in your cohokum directory as when i upgraded from 1.12.3 i had to manually delete 1120 and change the line to gwut1130.csv in the EECH.INI beercheers

Your server is running sweet AMRAAM. I just completed a 2hr session with Graeme and all looks good. Thx for putting it back up smile

Excellent!

Now I can move that install to my Gaming rig and see about getting back into the air myself. (and rediscovering how to fly no doubt :))

Interesting side note: To upgrade the server, I simply installed the 1.13 allmods over my current install of 1.12.3. I then deleted game.cfg and eech.ini, as well as all WUT files in the cohokum directory (other than the 1130 one). Started the game. Turned on internet play and then exit the game. Customized the eech.ini file to have the correct settings (including having to manually set the WUT to the 1130 version) and then ran the server up in dedicated mode. The server seems to be running fine. So possibly you don't have to do the full install dance when upgrading to 1.13.

A couple of caveats on this though:
1) It may be because the server runs in dedicated server mode, with no graphics options turned on)
2) It may be because the server is not super new hardware.

Is there some reason why you cant do a multiplayer free flight? All ive been able to do so far is campaign mode. I was trying to teach a friend the other day and didnt want to have to worry about getting shot at while i was instructing lol.

As I understand it, multiplayer can only be run in campaign or Skirmish mode.

The best way to fly safely would be to pick birds that are behind the lines and take them for a transfer mission.

Then if you want to engage targets, engage friendly targets. (they never fire back). If it helps, don't think of it as blue on blue fire, but as firing at a drone.

What Version of EECH do you have? I can connect to the server okay (but that is a LAN connection to the server, not a WAN connection).

Is anyone else having issues and is unable to connect to the server?

I was able to connect to Amraams server after tinkering around with it a bit. I was getting a very good connection. Anyone looking for a wingman online PM me. Ive never played EECH online with others so im rly looking forward to the new experience.
Thanks for the server Amraam. Im glad this sim is being kept alive, especially for those who like to fly the Apache and also for those who dont have a super computer at their disposal. smile

As long as people can connect that's the main thing smile.

I seldom have time to fly these days, but I do try to watch the screen and see if people are on.

AMRAAM server is up, had no problem connecting to it, but unfortunately I found myself alone.
It's been 6 years since I played EEAH, and when I've installed the bare version I dought at GOG...
well, let's say that graphics were not so impressive as I remembered it :P
but then... I've downloaded latest patches made by community and WHAT A CHANGE, and a new hellos to fly!
THANK YOU ! ...to those who still work on EECH.

Now, I'm looking to team up with someone and try multiplayer, any takers?

just to be clear, can you share the cockpit with another player, one is the pil;ot and one is the gunner? Or only play as seperate helos, same pilot controlling both pilot and gunner stations as in single player? thx...

Hi!

I and an other guy play multiplayer with this sim. We have a little lag, but this is our smaller problem. The bigger is that the client player's machinegun is useless. If I wait long time and then fire, all the ammunition is gone with one shoot. But it's blows amazing smile

Are there anyone who figured out something with this problem?

I also have this exact problem

If a client fired thier gun, stopped firing and then went to fire again later, the ammo count would be as if the client had never stopped firing in the first place. Perhaps there is some kind of disconnect between the host noting when the client has ceased firing.

I don't know if this was a bug introduced by the community modding, but it would be great to see a fix!

An additional issue, I can run MP fine on my Vista machine, but the laptop i'm on at the moment has Windows 7 and I can't seem to find any games in MP.

Can anyone let me know what settings you are using to get it working in windows 7? I'm keen for some MP on AMRAAM's.

someone needs to host one for a start (Amraam's server is down). It can be easily organised though. I'm currently in transit, but would be keen to organise a game later on.

This is technical issues aside of course.

When it comes to hosting EECH the far better option is to host on a separate machine. In the past i hosted both EECH and EE2 exstensivly on and old 2.4ghz P4 running winxp with very few problems. You just need to add an old PC onto your home LAN, then forward the EECH DX7 ports to the server PC. The host connects from their gaming PC by entering a LAN address and the Clients connect via the WAN address. Playing as well as hosting on the same PC is very problematic in that everytime the host has an issue the server will crash losing all campaign progress.

Since I tried Apache vs. Havoc about a decade ago, I always wanted to have a real human wingman, so it would be great if we could revive multiplayer in EECH, and if anyone can put up a serve then don't wait anymore, bring it up!
