Well that fixed about five of my complaints with the game.

We'll see if it makes me play it more.

Yeah, I'm about to play it without mods to see how it is stock. Will report tomorrow. Oh by the way, the interface is definitely improved.

Okay, I played for a while last night. The first thing I noticed is that enemy planes don't always ignore me like they used to. That's good. So now I finally got to see an enemy plane explode - very "Hollywood", but I like it.

The new user interface is better, but I had gotten used to one of the modded UIs and went back to it.

The patch notes say that environmental lighting and effects were improved - I noticed a little bit of a glitch with some shadows as I came out of the bunker in the Greek islands. A shadow from a harbor crane would appear and disappear depending how I looked at it. However, the sun streaming through the clouds ("God-rays") looks much better. Overall, I am still impressed with stock environment graphics and will likely change very little of that with mods.

Noticed something odd - when I use the F6 or F7 keys to order "Man the Deck Gun" or "Man the Flak Gun" I hear a follow-up order "Surface the Boat" even though I am already surfaced. It doesn't happen when I give the order directly to the Chief Watch Officer when I am on the conning tower.

Will report more as I come accross it.

Have you had any trouble with the online requirement? I'm interested in this sim but it's been a "Watch the patches" situation-I'm waiting until it seems to be fixed. In addition, I want to see what kind of a headache the online requirement is causing.

Rockphi, I just got through two days of no internet and used a replacement exe for SH5. Now that I have internet back on, I replaced the "other" exe with the original exe, updated to 1.2, and continued my campaign with no problem. If for some reason I lose internet I know that I can use a replacement exe. Right now, the "replacement" exe makers have not updated to version 1.2, but I'm sure it will be available very soon. If you do use a replacement exe, make sure you make a shortcut directly to it and don't use the Ubi launcher like you would under normal circumstances. Oh, and it is recommended that if you go this route you should disable the "Sync Saved Games with Online Server." That option is easily accessible in the Ubi launcher. This way, if you play with a replacement exe and later decide to update, all your save games won't be overwritten by the old save point from the online server.

.

After reading the SubSim.com forums, I'm gonna stall on playing the game for a while to see. There's about 25+ pages of ranting (good-but mostly bad) about the new patch.

When isn't there 25 pages of ranting for a new patch on ANY sim? I'd be more worried if there were only 2 pages wink

Looking forward to trying out the patch this weekend.
