Well, I only conked a Ur.II 2 times since the DR.1 was released, so I claim myself a seasoned tripe pilot, my .5`s (And I`d like to think they are originals :P):
I call this the Lightning Blip technique..
Aside from the usual mixing, making sure the engine is running good when climbing/descending, you should also be wary of dives, it doesnt have a tachometer so use your senses when diving:
Whenever it exceeds the usual rpm sound when you dive (This thing doesnt have a tachometer so you need to use your ears) IMMEDIATELY hold in the blip switch, no use in decreasing throttle (Trust me), only let it run for short bursts of AS QUICK AS you can release and hold the blip switch (button) to make sure whether your airspeed is still too much for the engine to handle, until you come out of the dive and the winding noise going away, again let go of the blip button for a split second to check rpm sound, if its still above average full throttle cruise SOUND that your ears are used to, keep at it, until, using the same sort of burst technique until it finally subsides and settles back to normal.
I think its important to add that when using the technique, to in between, not lightning blip it again until you see the wings have settled from the temporary torque burst of letting go of the blip switch, or you`ll definitely conk your engine (Especially if you repeat this mistake several times.) Remember to adjust mixture when you have descended as well, to ensure smooth engine operation! A non-smooth engine run, even for only a few seconds, could damage/destroy your engine!
I know the blip technique sounds like a hard technique, but when practiced correctly, sometimes the enemy wont even notice when you get behind them using the sun, from their perspective, looking straight ahead and above, and you coming in from high 6 o`clock with the sun in your back for example, they wont even hear your engine blip until you are right on their tails, if at all
Oh and.. Another DR.1 advice free of charge:
If you are diving on the opponent, whilst using the blip technique I described, and think your airspeed is still too much and, imagine that if you are discovered and enemy breaks into or away from your attack, will make you overshoot, and rather not engage in a zoom & boom battle, but rather get on his six right away and blast him down even after he discovered you 100 meters of his tail.. Heres what you do.. Use rudder and ailerons to kill airspeed quickly whilst coming down on him.. It`s a hard technique in the DR.1, you risk spinning out, stalling out, or just barely overshoot him (Allowing him to get on your six.) But if practiced right, will earn you the title: Dumbo, the one who only needs one pass...
Again, remember to adjust mixture to alleviate for the loss of altitude!
