I cant believe they missed out on new updated external 3d models for all bf109 planes (by Japancat and Anto)! Its a seminal piece of work, a must!

For the first time it adds full support for HSFX by using an independent Switcher and not the JSGME mods enabler. By this you can now enjoy FULL crt=2 compliance with systems running HSFX and also you have the option to install HSFX updates Directly, provided that you have switched version first. In any case i will also provide HSFX updates when they are available to ensure even better support.

Ermmm..... I more confused than usual. I've been well out of the Il2 loop for a few years but have been having an absolute ball off line with HSFX. I'm keen to try the UP2.01 FM's for the BoB Spits and Hurri's and to DL some campaigns which seem to be written for the UP mods.

I sort of got the impression from the above quote that I might be able to install UP2.01 over the top of HSFX 4.1... Not being at all tech savvy, have I got better than a snowflake's chance?

TIA for any glimmer of light.

In fact you shouldn't install it over HSFX. Do a separate install of UP 2.01 and you will have the option of using the switcher to switch to HSFX if you like.
I have two installs, so do a lot of other people. Not that I don't trust the switcher to work, but I still like to hedge my bets.
Trying to install one over the other probably won't work and will probably mess up your install of HSFX.

I am new to Ultra Pack but can't seem to add maps [in 2.01] that are needed (even after following tutorials to the letter in the UltraPack site) for some of my favorite campaigns. Also getting the sound freezes which I didn't have with the AAA mods. Starting to think it was a mistake switching to UltraPack. Too many problems, not enough flying. Jury is still out , but I am wasting too much time trying to get this thing where the AAA mods were more than a year ago. BTW - I have the latest UP2.01 and ran the updater.

I also had problems with UP2.01 but solved the by installing over FRESHLY installed il2 1946 4.09m. ~Runs wonderfully now:) The beauty of UP is collection of maps/ground objects/planes/effects with all compatibility problems between them solved.

Only thing is, if I take away the - sign from the MODS folder, or add any mods files to the MODS folder, the game gets to 60% and CTD. Leaving the folder as it is like this -MODS and the game loads no problem?

Means I can't add other MODS without learning the JSGME method frown Irritating frown

Ah, I was confused by that too;) No, you need to leave the -MODS folder with the minus and ( believe) using JSGME for the first time in a freshly installed UP2.01 makes nother MODS folder appear, that one without the minus. Then just pop the mods that are hard to install through JGSME into that folder and voila. I did this with ANTO's Ultimate bf109 pack (mega-highly recommended btw!) so speak from experience:)

Hope this will help in diagnosing your mod issue ...

A 60% CTD means there is a conflict in the aicraft loading sequence. As mentioned on the SAS site :

This article assumes that you have a modded version of IL2 that worked in the past, but that now crashed to desktop at 60% load after you installed a new plane.

Here is a step by step guide that will get you out of it 99.9 % of the time.

The 60% crash explained :

60 % crashes are caused by a broken chain of reference between your games air.ini file, the contents of your mods folder, and your buttons file.

When you load the game, it boots up these three things in the following way.

1) It loads the air.ini file, which tells it what planes to load.
2) It then goes to look for these planes, first in your mods folder, and if it doesn’t not find them there, it looks for them in your game’s own “SFS” files.
3) When it finds the plane, the plane’s files will tell it which Flightmodel data’s needed for that plane. Flightmodel data is contained in the Buttons file.

If at any stage in this process, the game is told to look for something and it cannot find it, it will crash back to desktop at 60% loading time.

The article continues ... I can provide a link to it via PM, but not publicly.

in the Cockpit of whatever I a...
I have a highly modded UP 2.01 running and was trying to add the last hotfix to it last night;
I experienced that 60% CTD whenever I dropped the content of the hotfix into the files folder, no matter what I tried;
it seems the creators of UP did add some content that does not like some content in my MODS folder, obviously something related to addon aircraft;
my air.ini, plane_ru and weapons_ru files are all in place and double and triple checked;

so for me, its no hotfix 2.01 now-the original 2.01 runs perfectly though;
I am pretty sure though that maybe a new buttons file might save the day in the near future though;

oh, dropping mods via the mod enabler does neither help nor cause troubles, as long as you add them with the correct file and folder structure;

hope this helps

My 60% CTD problem was resolved by simply installing the latest SAS buttons file.

do you have the latest hotfix installed?
I thought that dropping in the 15th april SAS buttons might cure the problem but it did not;
so for me, it is sticking with the pre hotfixV2 version of 2.01 and awaiting further developments...

my post was meant just to confirm that the latest version of 2.01 may indeed cause trouble with certain installations that feature MODS directories with their own mods installed there;
those troubles might have nothing to do with the mods inside the folder, but with the hotfix patch itself....

Hmmm, tried various options, still get a 60% CTD when I add a MOD to the MODS folder or take away the - sign.

Running JGSME after clean install didn't create a MODS folder (separate to - sign version)

Pity, was looking forward to adding some MODS to it frown

Cheers, MP
