One more: For those of you on the fence about SH5, I highly recommend this. This mod is like SH3 with SH4 graphics. Not sure it has ALL the bells and whistles that GWX does, but it has many and you can always add what you are missing. As it stands, it's pretty fantastic for only two mods, 5 files total in JSGME! Not sure I understand Budds...this IS SH4. I don't want this to turn into a DRM thread (although I agree with you). I'm just showing how great this mod for SH4 is and to offer it up to those with the U-Boat itch but who are still not wholly eager to get SH5 just yet (or ever). Just sharing a great sim opportunity with my peeps! Deacon

Deacon I was making reference to the "For those of you on the fence about SH5..." I agree with you ! Just adding that, anyone on the fence know/remember the limitations of SH5 ! That was the deciding factor for me right there.... pushed me right off the fence and back to my Trusty SH4 install !!!

Now I'm confused! It's V that has the protection scheme correct? If I go with III/V - 'no internet connection is required to play, right?

Just bought SH4 for 10 €. Short question, is this the way you modded SH4 to get the shown results? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1334138&postcount=1TIA Karsten

That's all I did. Five files in JSGME and nothing else. Very well thought out and complete mod. This is the option I took: "If you wish to play Uboat operations “ONLY” and use OMEGU plus optional OMEGU mods OM v705 OM v720 OM v720 Patch 4 OMEGU v300 OMEGU v300 Patch 6" Hope you like it. I'm still enjoying the heck out of it. Deacon

What does the add on actually do? I thought the SH games were all about u-boats?

@ Deacon: THX for confirming, I`m just downloading the stuff, JSGME is a really cool tool, already loved it with SH3. What does the add on actually do? I thought the SH games were all about u-boats? SH4 had only US subs when it came out, the U-Boat missions addon added German subs. These mods lets you play the whole U-Boot war from the German side in SH4, adding all major U-Boot classes.

Oki, after a short look, it seems I have it up and running. For sure at least visually a big improvement above SH3, although from what I`ve seen, the colours are very rich compared to SH3 . I just added this sound mod (no offence, but Enlish voices o a U-Boot is a no-go for me). http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=150955

Glad you got it running KS! It looks great doesn't it? I haven't changed the voices yet but I'm thinking of it. Actually, I wouldn't mind German accented English, just so I can understand what the heck they're saying! Raw, KS is exactly correct. SHIV was all about US boats in the Pacific and the later U-Boat missions add on still only allowed sailing in the South Pacific. Operation Monsoon fixes alot of things with SHIV, adds the whole list of U-Boats from their historic bases and moves the U-Boats back to their home waters in the North Atlantic, Med, etc. It's a very nice mod. Thanks chaps, I've been on the fence for a while but finally I'm going for SH4 for all the reasons expressed in this thread (and it's a bonzer sim!!!). Finally convinced by these comments and some of the u tube videos ----- gives a taste of gameplay and some hint of difficulty. I just need more RAM (in my head that is!!). Cheers - Mort

You won't regret it. And, SH4 is so cheap that you don't need to feel guilty if you decide to get SHV after it's been patched/modded to satisfaction in awhile. Deacon

Thanks for reply Deacon, SH5 will have to be patched modded to obviate the DRM before I support it. From what I see SH4 only lacks a few nice graphic touches that SH5 benefits from, and the mods to date for SH4 have definately lifted the game to a new level. Kudos to the modders and long may they keep our enjoyment, interest and grateful support.
I'm looking forward to it. All the best - Mort
