How does one know the amount of time they need to stay in a station? Also, what is a station? Does that refer to one steerpoint? Also, if there are multiple points, does one fly between those points over and over until the time is up?

Normally the barcap is flown between the two cap waypoints. You should remain within 20 miles of those two waypoints to be considered in station. Stray any further and you risk failure to remain on station. Stay in station until your patrol time is up. Usually 30 minutes. You can adjust the time in the 2d map.

Hope you join up tonight.

I got fed up with BARCAP missions. Especially doing the math portion to know exactly how long I've been "on station". I was on my way for a BARCAP one night (quite a ways away), and I started fumbling with buttons. I stumbled upon the "Time" button. If you bring up the time page and hit the "UP" arrow on the far left hand side, it will start a timer. Once the timer starts, you can switch over to "Crus". Once at "Crus", the "current time" will be replaced by the timer . Now you have the timer (HK TIME) going on top, "DES TOS" in the middle, and ETA at the bottom. I've started doing HAVCAPs now using this and it's not so bad, besides the amount of time it takes, hehe. I don't know how to add pictures to posts, but I'll give it a shot.

Pay not attention to the jammer...flying HAVCAPs, i get bored (usually during last few days of the war), i leave the jammer on to try to get somebody to track me, *evil laugh* so I can shoot back at them.

Take care!

"Bud"

Or...hijack these missions. Bring up the flight plan and change the patrol duration times at the two SP's to...zero! You get the mission accomplished for campaign purposes, but are now free to take some meaningful action dancing on someone's head up North.

That's an awesome idea, I never would've thought of that, lol. Especially when there's nothing but BARCAPs on the dinner menu and the enemies have near zero airpower.

Yeah. Frustration is the mother of invention. Or something like that. The only drawback is if you are flying with more than one other guy. The barcaps are almost always 2-ships. But other than that, you can plot your new waypoints to a desirable target and also set up your loadout before taking off. Helps a lot with making faster progress in the campaign. Or just more fun and productive.

You don't need to punch ICP to know when to get out.

You have TOS on your briefing and default DED page has digital time so you check your actual arrival time on the CAP point and add required station time to that than you have your check out time...

Exactly !!!

And while I do tend to "Ground Pound" on these "Adjusted" BARCAPs, the Beauty is you can turn that Patrol into a Sweep..... and go do some Real Top-Gun $hit in an area that is meaningful !
( the ATO is poor at BARCAP placement IMHO ! )

Good that we CAN take Charge !
smile

Anywyas........
