I've had a change of tack and decided to do a British machine for a change. (I can picture Ming clapping and cheering ) Still a WIP I have to add the fancy stripes and weather the whole plane. Comments good/bad would be appreciated. Splash

Splash, can I ask you, in the lower right picture of your montage (first post), which program are you using to view the Camel 3D model?...is it 3DMax? Do you use any plugins to view it?

Glad to see you turn your attention away from the dark side Nice work Splash, I remember some of the Skins you did for IL2. But you seem to have found your niche with RoF. Keep up the good work One small thing though, could you tone down the Green to a more brownie green. There used to be lengthy debates on the colour of the RFC dope, known as PC10, back in the RB days. Your profile example picks up the brownish colour of the Camel and if you see the Old Warden Sopwiths you can see they favour the PC10 is brown approach too. For example

Hi Recon3, picture is taken as Brigstock says using the User Viewer from ROF itself. I used it in conjuction with FRAPS and then used the screen print button to take the picture. Splash

No problem mate, the colour used is from the actual template the ROF team released. I wasn't sure they had it correct either but left it as is because my knowledge on WW1 colours is limited, I will amend it when I get the chance. Splash

Nice thanks Splash! colour issueWe just paint em with whatever paint stock's issued there's a war on I can imagine the bods at HQ debating what exact shade of brown ought to be used. The Honourable Poncington-Brewer dancing around shrieking about the exact shade of taupe, the flippertygibbet's khaki. I'd put them all in the Army http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taupe#Sandy_taupeMing

Well, maybe this colour issue needs to be discussed a bit more? Hmmm...let's see The PC10 Recipe Lets see for 100 gallons (Imperial btw) of PC10 dope 260 pounds nitro Cellulose syrup 74 pounds of pigments in the following proportions 40 pounds yellow ochre 30 pounds umber 2 pounds 8 ounces Red Ochre 1 pound 8 ounces Chinese Blue. Once that lot was assembled it was added to 20 gallons Acetone or Methyl ethyl ketone 15 gallons Amyl Acetate 15 Gallons benzol 15 gallons Methylated spirit http://wwi-cookup.com/sopwith/modelling/pc10.htmlPC10 is a bit of a slippery colour for historians to nail down as it changed from a brown to green shade as the war progressed. Additionally as it was subject to weathering, it browned in colour. So in my humble opinion It started out as a definite brown shade in the early days of the RFC, progressed to a shade closer to green but went back to brown with weathering/sun bleaching. In summary they either started out brown or green that turned brown.

So brown it is Stick to the Axis.....no absolutely not. It would be a crime

this was one general recipe and the key was: it was a general one [Ming's punctuation and emphasis] Like the centipede that fell over when trying to work out which foot to put first Splash, use your own judgment on brown mate: no one knows what colour anything 'actually' was back then and the colours of models (the source of the colour info) look very different to real-size aircraft colours. Colours look different when they're in smaller or bigger patches, and also a colour changes depending on which colours surround colour-patches, nervous-system thing. Brown will be fine 74 pounds of pigments in the following proportions 40 pounds yellow ochre 30 pounds umber 2 pounds 8 ounces Red Ochre 1 pound 8 ounces Chinese Blue. Their yellow ochre is not our yellow ochre, their Chinese Blue (Chinese Blue?) is not our Chinese Blue and so on Yellow ochre (earth colour) plus red ochre (earth colour) equals orange ochre plus blue is khaki, umber (earth colour) just darkens the khaki so we're talking about dark brown depending on the strength of the umber No green anywhere, these are purely secondary colours and mix down to the colour of the output of the digestive system, cacker. That's why they call it khak Ming

And Im thought I was being so cleverYou were mate, but there are so many variables and unknowns in that recipe. Only one thing one can be absolutely sure of, it'll mix down to a brown of some sort. We all learned very early on that mixing red yellow and blue mixes down to brown, in playschool I mean: or in my case Borstal Ming

One small thing though, could you tone down the Green to a more brownie green. There used to be lengthy debates on the colour of the RFC dope, known as PC10, Your profile example picks up the brownish colour of the Camel and if you see the Old Warden Sopwiths you can see they favour the PC10 is brown approach too. For example Brigs I've changed the colour from the original to the new colour specified from you (FS14087) Below is the original and New PC10 side by side A picture of new PC10 in crashed and flight Is it better? Updated Lt Breadner Another one I have been working on "Black Prince" flown by FSL W. J Mckenzie No 13 Sqdn RNAS. This plane was in service with Seaplane Defence Squadron in Dunkirk in Oct 1917, later (Jan 15th 1918)it was attached to No13 Sqdn RNAS. Flown by FSL Mckenzie it crashed close to Bergues on Feb 19th 1918 I know there was a Sopworth Triplane of the same name. Splash

Splash, just a few suggestions....Breadners plane - red on nose and on tail (red stripes) should be slightly desaturated and darkened....
on last screenie (Black Prince?) black is too dark...should be less dark
otherwise very good work!

Here is Mckenzie with the Black adjusted Breadner Before After (desaturated and darkened/new template/ new skin colour) Tvrdi is that any better? Once inserted into the game I find that the light plays havoc with the skin as it looks different from all angles. What time of day in game would give the best result? Splash

I'm going to release these and try to get it into the game for mods off. The only problem is the translations to the other countries which is required. French and German translations have been completed, just waiting for the Spanish and Russian now. If you would like to translate please have a look at (link below) http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=112&t=8923Many thanks Splash

WB. Whiskey, if it ever happens mate, I've managed to get the Spanish translation via Nepe. I sent him a PM from the EAF site. Still waiting for a Russian translation for a game fron a Russian developer with Russian moderators etc etc, oh the irony IL2 and the multiplayer cache gets my vote anytime. (Well done Oleg) I don't even know at the moment if I can be ar*ed to carry on waiting to get it in the game. Hmmmmm back to WW2 I think. Splash

How about having a go at some 92 Sqn skins to keep you motivated?

I know that this isn't a good authority, but I thought I would throw it in to the conversation. It also allows me to rack up some cool points. More here. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2995330/I_got_to_sit_in_a_Sopwith_Tri_.html#Post2995330
