New title by a dev group that split from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World. It's due to be released tomorrow and is receiving favourable initial reviews. It looks to be very impressive with fantastic atmosphere. I'll be picking this one up as soon as it's released.

Didn't know it was "related" (once removed) from STALKER but I thought it did sound similar to what I've seen about that game. I've got it on my gamefly list, hoping it gets sent out tomorrow.

this section of the review makes me happy: "What really resonates, though, is how the game hasn’t been dumbed down to ease it into the console market - it's a true PC shooter. Fail to keep your torch topped up and you might just miss a hidden tripwire which hurls a spiked pendulum into your noggin. Ignore the audio cues that indicate a crumbling ledge and you’ll be dunked into toxic soup before you know what’s happened. Metro 2033 is never unfair – 4A mercifully fixed the ammo and difficulty spikes present in last month’s preview code – but, simultaneously, it’s far from forgiving."

You mean you have a battery that only lasts 30 seconds and then you have to "turn it off and wind it"?

I got it yesterday afternoon and preloaded it from steam. It started unlocking at midnight and I figured I'd get a chance to check it out for an hour but it took 43 minutes to unlock! So I fired it up, played for 10 minutes and went to bed.

It was pretty atmospheric for those 10 minutes and in DX9 mode it runs great and looks great on my machine. Doesn't seem to be a DX10 mode, just 9 and 11.

Wonder if it's like Alien Vs Predator and you run the DX11 mode if you have DX10 and it filters out the DX11 stuff? If that made any sense lol smile

Wouldn't let me select any mode other than DX9. It still looks really good from the few minutes I played and it will be nice to revisit down the road when I finally get around to upgrading again.

Alright, I can buy one game this month.
Do I get this, or Call of Pripyat?
