I finished the race, but what kind of performance by me was that supposed to be in the last part of the race? screwy

After the chequered flag I checked my controller at once. The gas pedal shows fully going through in the rates, hence full throttle and no miscalibration.

So I was just an idiot to blow the 2nd BMW position and with it went the last chance to win the BMW championship. banghead

Thank God! biggrin

I was not expecting to qualify only 2 tenths behind ColKurtz so that was a pleasant surprise, so perhaps I wasn't too far off the pace.

I got a good launch off the line, again being side-by-side Kurtz down the short front straight, but this time he had the inside line and I was not able to pass him for the lead. I'm guessing he was really glad to keep the lead this time wink

The slipstream allowed me to stay in contact with him but I made a small mistake at the end of Lap 3 which put me a second behind him. From there it was Kurtz pulling out a lead on me as he was purely faster. I did not give up though and drove my very best to keep the gap as small as possible just in case I could make it up through traffic or if he made a mistake.

It took me 45 minutes to finally figure out how to take Turn 6 optimally, but I put that down to the low fuel, allowing me to turn in better. From there I started matching Kurtz' times and was able to reduce the gap ever so slightly. I then put down the fastest lap of the race and was hoping that would put some pressure on him or maybe he would make a mistake trying to beat it, it was only 10 seconds up 'til that point.

Coming down at the end of lap 37 I saw a yellow flag and a tyre on the track, I didn't think it was Kurtz' but I crossed the line and it said I was first! hahaha (sorry)

It was a good race up until then Kurtz!

Persistence paid off and I'm looking forward to Monaco smile

@purolater: I think I tagged your rear-left tyre on Lap 7, I did not receive any damage so hopefully it didn't effect your race, sorry about that!

Congrats to LC for winning the FBMW class, but I still think he should be in the F1 cockpit! duel Charge

--------

Just a note for everyone for next week's race.

Please be extra careful when being lapped next week, slow down more than usual and don't race the guy lapping you, you don't want to risk an accident.. It is Monaco after all smile You will lose time but so will the guy in front of you.

purolater is indeed appropriate, Ahmad. And congrats for the victory, I say you won the championship.

I just watched the replay, also this incident. There was some damage, but nothing which affected my race, besides I must have weaved a bit to the left, according to the replay.

I hoped then you were not affected as well, as it was a nice duel then.

The car was actually as good as before and good enough for 1:32s, if only the driver had been a bit more courageous in the first place and who solely is to blame for his abysmal and lackluster performance. Pole in the BMW class and then handed down to 3rd...even the old pitstop trick to get in a bit earlier didn't help in the end, Ian was simply better, faster and much more up to the task and didn't crack when under pressure, unlike me.

LC, I never had any hope to being able to stay within his vicinity anyway, but I should have been able to stay in 2nd and failed.

I didn't race anyone when being lapped, just tried to keep the line.

Well, what a race.

After qualifying I figured we might have a pretty tight race in the BMWs. I made some mistakes early in the race. Lucky the damage wasn't too high as I stuffed it into the wall at the final chicane early on, with only slight wing damage rather than far worse.

After I got comfy in the car and got past Mojo I thought I'd have a go at trying to eat into the lead puro had on me. I knew he'd been quicker than me in quali so it was a tall order but I figured if I could at least make him see me eat a couple of seconds into his lead I might get in his head.

Eventually I'd caught up and managed to sneak by into the final chicane (I hope that move was clean, it's hard to tell with these mirrors exactly where anyone is). After that I figured I just needed to keep my nose out of trouble and stay ahead. As I got to the end I noticed I'd need another pit stop. Not wanting to overshoot my crew I wasted a few seconds trying to get into the bay and only just came out ahead of purolator. Not sure what happened to him after that but the gap grew to 15 seconds quickly so I figured an off. Just had to cruise it to the end then.

Sorry any F1s that I cut up. Like I say, it's not easy with these wing-mirrors to see where people behind you are and I know of a couple I times I chopped across people so sorry about that.

Can't do next week as myself and my better half are off on holiday (Egypt in March beats England in March). Good luck to all.

Miscellaneous Ramblings

Another good race in this series. Congratulations again to Ahmad, and WTG Ben! The series has been tough on you so I was glad to see you have a solid finish. Haven't looked at poor Col Kurtz' shunt, but another hair-pulling day for him. The ever quiet Pierre took a strong second place again, and it is still possible to win the series if ironman Ahmad has a miscue at Monaco. MojoFlow left the ArmA2 battlefields and has become the leader in BMWs. Purolator, yes you did so badly that you're in 2nd place in the BMW series after not driving them in the first race. Shame on you! WinkNGrin

On to the palacial streets of Monaco

Private qualifying has now been set (sorry about that) and the new setup for BMWs is loaded. It is more acceleration that top speed, but you should see 121 mph / 195 kph at the harbor left kink. That seems to be the fastest point on the track.

Great race guys, although I was disappointed and got frustrated that I couldn't get into a better groove with some better lap times. Last night I had a good practice session and was running some pretty consistent 1:32's but was running mostly closer to 1:35 in the race. Not sure why, but I just couldn't nail down my laptimes.

I am going to blame my week of Rallying (RBR) with my inconsistent times... sure that's it.

One thing I am happy with is that I am feeling a lot more comfortable running with other cars around and being overtaken by the faster cars without panicking and going off-track. It only happened once this time wink The biggest challenge I have found racing online is how to drive and react in a pack of humans instead of AI, and also keeping my nerves under control and staying relaxed.

Ian, I lost it right after you in that chicane, and did a 180, missed my braking point following you in and drove over the curbing, an F1 blasted through between us right after, would have liked to have seen the look on his face after making it through the carnage.

Doug, glad you mentioned that Arma2 stuff. I actually took up the Fun Series racing because it fit my schedule better for MP, and also I could race with the kids around and not have my 4 year old ask me who I was going to shoot today. Racing is a lot more kid friendly, at least until they are a bit older.

The one thing that is different from Arma to racing is the teamplay aspect of it. I guess this goes without saying considering the nature of each of the game types. I have been reading the Ross Bentley 'Speed Secrets' books (highly recommended, BTW), and was thinking about coaching. Ross suggests strongly in having a coach to help you reach your potential as a driver, and I was wondering if this is something we could start doing for each other.

I thought of this after the race today feeling that I ran a generally good race (ie. not crashing out and actually finishing) that I was basically happy with, but ended last in the pack. This really says a lot about the caliber of the drivers we have at SimHQ. Just throwing the idea out there, and I haven't really thought much about how to implement, but I think it would be something useful and the end result would make for some even more competitive exciting racing.

Anyway, it was fun, see you guys next Sunday.

Cheers!!

I did wonder where you'd gone mojo. I'll have to check the replay - sounds fun. I did notice that in the middle of the race i was running laps at lazyc's pace. Miles behind him, but still, i was happy when i saw that
