Hi, I have had the buttkicker since Christmas and I think it was a good addition to my Setup. Well today I ran into another Probelm It is NOT working??

It was working this morning and after I came back Home about 8 pm tonight I booted up and turned on the ButtKicker and Nothing??? I had checked all the Plugs and settings in Control panel and Play control All Volume levels are turned on??

Are these things known for just breaking down like this??

Any Ideas to why it is NOT working??

Yup... it's going to die. It's overheating if it is the 'old' kind.

The older ones have two internal fans. The fans are very cheap and unreliable. When one of them dies, the ButtKicker overheats and stops working.

When you unplugged it, it cooled down enough to start working again. This is exactly what happened to mine, though it was a couple of years ago. I took it apart, removed the two fans and replaced them with high quality fans, then reassembled it. It's been working fine ever since.

By the way, if you keep overheating it, it will burn out completely. I've known others to burn out permanently after the first failure.

Their newer version is made differently, does not generate the same kind of heat, and has no fans.

Hi Hedgehog,

I have the newer One that has NO Fans.. It uses the Convection cooling method??I did NOT have it running when it broke I had came back at night and turned it on and it would not turn on but after and hour of messing around with it I got it working somehow??

So I don't think it is a Heat issue..Thnx for letting me know about the older models..

I have that problem every once in a while (I also had the problem with the original as described above). I think it comes down to how the unit automatically senses sound and turns the unit on. I think sometimes if you flip the power off on the back then turn it back on it'll work.

I kept my old transducer from the old BK setup and mounted it on my couch, the new one mounted in my pit. I highly recommend watching some movies using it very cool!

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

Ya I had tried that and it did NOT come back on. I am thinking I have a Defective Unit???

Does anyone have trouble turning the ButtKicker OFf & On?? I have to go through a rather lengthy Procedure to turning On/Off of the unit. I have to hit the On/Off button multiple times very annoying??

Should this thing turn On/Off with just a single button press??

That's the exact problem I'm having and like I said it seems like an issue with the way the unit senses sound to turn on/off automatically. If it doesn't sense any audio output from the PC it will turn itself off or on if it does. I know it has to sense bass sound (low end) to switch because sometimes it switches on and other times it doesn't. Good example of that is if I put the new Star Trek DVD in the BK kicks on in the opening sequence as the ship rumbles across the screen. Last night I put in my Blade Runner (Directors Cut oh snap) and never got any feedback because of the old school audio track (I think). Either this is a BK tech issue or we're both doing something wrong and not following directions. I'd like to think we're doing something wrong because mine does work like it should most the time, is yours hit and miss too? Or is it displaying the issues you describe all the time?

In any case maybe an email to the Buttkicker support will help.
