I guess Vorenus' death was only a dream. As was the murder of Gaius Julius, nicknamed Caesar.

Vorenus never died on the show. He was seriously wounded but he was still alive and seemed to be improving at the end of the finale episode. As for Julius Caesar, my guess is that the film will pick up where the show's finale left off so there will be no issue there.

From the article,

Series stars Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) and Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo) will likely sign onto the movie, which picks up in Germany four years after the series ended.

But what are they doing in Germany in 27 BC? (Actium was 31 BC). Augustus doesn't invade Germania Magna until 12 BC.

My only response to that would be "it's going to be a movie and not a documentary". wink

I'm sure there was some contact back and forth between the Romans and Germans before they invaded properly.

There was an excellent book I read a long time ago about a Roman "secret agent" trying to get back the "lost Eagles" of Varus from the Germans...

Great news! thumbsup

Maybe Vorenus and Pullo are acting as scouts? Caesar bridged the Rhine during his Gaul campaign, so the Romans already were in contact with Germanic tribes. If the writers and producers are the same, I'm sure they'll come up with a convincing story that is historically feasible.

I'm looking forward to that movie. And who knows? If it does well financially, maybe HBO might consider a third season?

I'm sure it's even greater news for Ray Stevenson (Pullo) since his "Punisher" movie totally bombed at the box office.

I believe Kevin McKidd (Vorenus) currently has a recurring role on Grey's Anatomy.

Yeah, I do hope the movie will restart their careers. I've recently bought "Kingdom of Heaven" (Director's cut) on Blu-ray, and noticed that Kevin McKidd had a minor role as "English Sergeant" (honestly never noticed it before). Ridley surely could have expanded that role a bit.

"Kingdom of Heaven" is an outstanding movie and one where the extended version is FAR superior to the theatrical cut. Kevin McKidd did have a show on network tv called "Journeyman" which got a lot of good critical reviews but it didn't last that long.

Vorenus and Pullo, two of my favourite tv characters, brilliant news.

(If you want to see Kevin Mckidd in another film role, I recommend 'Dog Soldiers').

I think Ray Stevenson is underrated, I never liked McKidd in Rome, he always seemed distant but maybe that was his character as Vorenus. Stevenson was also pretty good in King Arthur, which is also a very watchable film. I rather liked the idea that the "knights" were Sarmatian conscripts fighting for Rome.

Heh, McKidd is 'Soap' MacTavish in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2".

Guys, please don't tell all these spoilers, I've only just gotten to episode 10 in season 1, watching it on bluray, it is really great and I'd appreciate if you use the spoiler function here in the forum.

BTW, "forum"... - Just another example of how Rome is still alive with us today, in modern culture.

You are so right Frey. We should not have mentioned the demise of Julius Caesar. I mean, that would be totally unexpected! wink

Hehe, good one smile

But, I was more thinking about what I read here about Vorenus, which I tried to unremember later, when I watched episode 9 (The mobster showdown interrupted by Caesar). Damn' annoying to know what I read in the beginning of this thread, *sigh*...

Anyway, if people don't care about spoilers I guess I should just stay away from any movie thread in here. Probably the best thing to do.

Sorry 'bout that, Frey... never thought about it, the series was already two years old when I first saw it.

Admittedly, I also fell into the same level of ennui. I will try and be more astute about using the spoiler tags in the future.

Great news! I have the complete DVD edition of Rome, one of the best TV series I've ever seen. Loved the characters of Pullo and Vorenus.

To this day the two most powerful scenes for me from the series is the scene in the Senate building when Caesar is assassinated and the scene where Pullo comes to the residence of Cicero to dispose of him. There was just something so eerily calm and serene about the entire exchange between Cicero and Pullo that really made that scene amazing to me.

Oh, BTW, if you ever get the chance, try to read some Asterix comics. They're brilliant! At least, the first 24 are.

I remember having a couple of Asterix comics when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I couldn't read them since they were in French but I still enjoyed the artwork. smile

After hearing that Rome the movie had been given the green-light, I started watching the series again last night. It drew me right back in and before I knew it it was after 2 a.m., I was already four episodes in and I had to fight back the urge to watch 'just one more' and head off to bed. Great series!

It's a fantastic series indeed and I've been thinking about buying the Rome bluray set. From the very first episode I could tell that "Rome" was a first rate show.
