Note: Some Rallyesim documentation refers to the add-on as both RSRBR2010 and RSRBR 2010. I believe that the terms may be used interchangeably.

I thought that since RSRBR2010 is so rich with features, and because it is being developed by a group of Richard Burns Rally enthusiasts based in France, that it might be helpful to put together a quick start guide for English speakers. The reader should note that this by no means is meant to be a comprehensive guide to RSRBR. Rather, it is simply a way to get you in the car and driving rally stages as quickly as possible.

Furthermore, in no way do I profess to being an expert on RSRBR, or RBR for that matter. Rather, the reader should be advised that there is a great deal of information on the RallyESim web site and forums, and I highly suggest that the rookie RBR rally pilot spend some time there reading through the many posts. To translate a post from French to English, don't forget to use Google Translate. Expand your horizons. Introduce yourself, as they are a very friendly bunch who are passionate about rally racing and RBR. They will welcome you as a fellow rally and RBR fan.

1.Installing RBR and RSRBR2010 as directed in THIS post will give you access to all of the content within via a user called MULLIGATAWNY. This user can be used to race multiplayer in RSRBR2010, and will not reflect your game name (handle). You can create other driver profiles, but unless they are completely unlocked, you might have trouble accessing all features of RSRBR.

Tip: For new rally drivers, it is highly suggested that you complete the Rally School. Launch Richard Burns normally. The graphics will seem dated as compared to RSRBR2010, but the physics are brilliant. It is fun to come back here at the end of your first rally season to see if you've gotten quicker

Launch RBR, setup your controls, and any other settings. Make sure to set your Rally Notes to English, unless you prefer French. Here are my input.ini and RichardBurnsRally.ini files for an example of some useful settings. You might have different settings if your brake and clutch were not reversed, or if you don't run your screen resolution at 1680x1050. These are in your Richard Burns Rally folder and can be edited with any text editor (make backups please).

Tip: Speaking of folders, I run Windows 7 64. Like Vista, Win7 has UAC. To accommodate programs not designed for Vista or Win7, I suggest that you create a folder to install your games in other than \Program Files. RBR on my PC is installed in C:\Simulations\RBR. If you are running Vista or Win7, you might receive a couple of errors during the main RSRBR 2010 install. I just click the ignore button and drive on. It doesn't seem to effect the mod or sim. This is also referenced in the official install tutorials

2.During the RSRR install, several icons will be placed on your desktop. Launch the one labeled RSCenter. The icon labeled 'Lanceur d'Add Ons RSRBR' is a launching pallet for RSCenter and some other very useful utilities, like Skin Manager. Check the official tutorials for explanations of their use. For right now, let's get to the meat in that rally sandwich. You want the launch RSCenter.



Initially, a splash screen appears, followed by this screen. I've labeled the functions. The first three are chosen when you register at Rallyesim. Click <Play alone>.

Tip: To be able to compete online against other virtual rally pilots, you need to register at RallyESim, pick your cars, and a perform a bunch of other tedious tasks. Fortunately, no counting backwards from 200 by sevens. In fairness, multiplayer is a ton of fun, and there is no better organized league than at RallyESim, IMHO.



3.At initial launch RSCenter will ask you for some settings. To change them later, click File -> Settings, or click the settings icon. You can use mine as an example. I only have one profile to load, MULLIGTAWNY, my time zone is EST, I always drive a manual shift (paddles), and don't mind RSRBR suggesting a tire choice. Check the official official RSCenter tutorial for detail on the rest of the settings.



4. I'm feeling that since you've spent hours reading through this thread, installing RBR, and installing and patching RSRBR2010, that you are chomping at the bit to drive. Let's do it.

In RSCenter, as a single player you have two major choices, running it as a full RSRBR2010 install with all of the settings selected in the boxes in the column just to the left, or < Launch RBR SEE mode >. This mode allows you more navigation choices, allows you to save settings, and run the original stages, rallies, and championship season. If you click on the <Launch RSRBR2010> button, RSCenter will load everything for you and allow you to jump right in and drive the stage. After you are finished and have watched the replay, it will shutdown RBR and bring you back to RSCenter, where you can setup the next stage. To get a real feel for these, I suggest that you sample each mode. The < GO > button is simmilar to the <Launch RSRBR2010> button, except for the fact that you won't be able to view your replay. It simulates on online rally in that respect.

Confused? Pick a car pack, mod, car, stage, and click < GO >. You be a rally pilot now, uh huh.

< Launch RBRdll > is a mode similar to < Launch RBR SEE mode >, except that it loads a third party mod that allows some different functionality and effects during replay. Check the RBRdll readme in the the RBRdll folder inside of your RBR install folder for details.

Tip: Worried about all of the files being manipulated by RSRBR? Drive in another league without mods? Want to drive the original RBR game? Have no fear about running RSCenter. AFAIK, it will not overwrite your original RBR install, but will load whatever files that it needs on the fly at game launch. Pretty cool, eh?

The column to the left allows you to pick car, tires, mod (road surface and textures), weather, stage, etc to be run when in RSRBR2010. If you are running in multiplayer mode, some of these will be chosen for you. If you want to explore RBR more than just drive the stage, click on the < Launch Richard Burns Rally SEE >.

Tip: A little bit about Camhack. This is a very useful utility that allows a driver to setup a better viewing perspective inside the car. You launch it just after launching RSCenter, and then fagetaboutit. It runs in the background while you are driving, but must be activated after you enter RBR to drive a stage. When you see your car, press * to activate it. Now you can move your view around and set your zoom level with the numeric keyboard as desired. From the Camhack Readme:


WHAT ARE THE BTB STAGES?
BTB stands for Bob's Track Builder. This is a 3rd party payware track development tool made popular by modders making tracks for rFactor, Racer, and the many SimBin titles, that now supports Richard Burns Rally. At Rallyesim, BTB tracks come in two flavors, Track Packs and single tracks. Both are optional. However, if you want to race in an online rally that is using BTB tracks, you will need both track packs. The single track installs are just so that there is a method to drive tracks not in the track packs, although you can install them in both places. Confused? Not bad for a 6 year old sim

Hi,

I can't seem to get my Fanatec Porsche Turbo S wheel force-feedback to work. I have the rest working, and the FF works on rFactor and GTR etc, but for some reason it doesn't on RB, despite turning it on in the menu's.
Any suggestions?

Rob, I don't remember having that issue with the Fanatec first gen wheel and RBR when I tried it almost 2 years ago. Early adapter was I, but went back to the Logitech when I had problems with the pedals. I did a quick search of the rallyesim.com forum, but didn't find any mention of a problem. A couple of drivers are using them.

Of course, here on SimHQ, Chunx did a very thorough review of the Turbo S, and does offer some setup tips to use it with RBR.

Logitech can be incredibly picky sometimes. Try looking for a patch or an update. If nothing else, uninstall the drivers (or program?) and reinstall it. That usually works for me.
