I submitted this post over at the ROF forum, but figured i may get a quicker response here.

Thanks Pat for this great program.

I tried to convert the mission this program produces to a coop mission for on line play using the mission builder. Everything saves fine after I make the alterations, but when my squad mates try to join they get a error msg ending with 17.

Does any one know what might be causing this to happen?

Cheers
Fawlty

From the readme ... where you should have downloaded the program ...

Quote:

3. Short Instructions:
----------------------

Unzip this into your main ROF directory. It will create a folder called RofCampaign. That folder will contain an executable jar called RofCampaign.jar. Double click on the jar and the program starts.

Menu navigation ...
Continue
... campaign screen (only if you already have a campaign - error otherwise)
Load
... file loader to select an existing campaign
... campaign screen
Create
... campaign create 1
... campaign create 2
... campaign screen

As you can see, the idea is to get you from the main menu to the campaign screen. Once there ...
Campaign Screen
... Create mission (no feedback just yet - I will do something soon. Mission will be in your RoF mission folder)
... Combat Report
... Combat Report Screen 1
... Combat Report Screen 2
... Combat Report Screen 3
... campaign screen
... Squadron (names on chalkboard are buttons - press to see individual pilot)
... Pilot

Make sure your Java is current and up to date.

When will the Nieuport 17 be available in this Campaign Generator tool?

Last I heard Patrick was having computer problems. Then there was rumor that maybe he lost all his original work, then that was put to rest when he mentioned he found it intact ...

If he's anything like me, as long as I'm working on something it stays in my head, the minute I quit doing that and start something else, I loose a little bit of the old stuff ... chances are he's gotta go back and refresh himself with what he's done, and there were some other things that he said he wanted to try, adding new planes was part of that ...

So I reckon just give him time to get his head wrapped around the code again and I'm sure he'll have us in the air with everything we need in no time. smile

lol - you hit it on the head. I have all of the code. I am up and running on my new computer. It's just that after a month away it is taking me a bit of time to pick it back up again. That, combined with a very busy life and general tiredness when I do have a moment means minimal progress. But that should be temporary.

I have got my java workspace up and running and I have started to review the code. I am currently working on historical aces. I have them in other squadrons and they will be assigned to friendly and opposing flights. However, there is more to do. What happens if an ace is in your squadron? What happens if the ace is the squadron commander while when you rise to squadron commander? I also do not have premature death coded - i.e. you shoot down the ace. Nor do I have non-historical victories coded. I know how RedBaron did it, I'm just not sure that I want to duplicate their design.

Per the N17 and Alb D.III, they are not included because I simply do not have enough planes for that era (late 16/early-mid 17). At the moment RoFCampaign starts in September of 1917. I will move the date backwards as planes become available. I have the data, I just need the planes.

Fawlty: unfortunately I have noanswer to your question. I am notterribly active online so my multiplayer experience - includingdealing with multiplayer errors - is limited. Any chance that you could ask on the official boards? My missions are really just like any other single player mission, so any generic single to multiplayer conversion should work. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful.

I asked these questions over at neoqb 3rd party Apps Forum....

How Do I kill this java program??? I shut it down every which way I can...but if I try to change a simple text file in it, I'm told the file is in use (by a running application). I can't even delete the "ROFcampaign" Folder. When I attempt to do so, I get the message that the Folder is open in another program.
I was told not to use the Drop-down "Close" option (same as the X box closing)when done with the Campaign generator...but Too Late, of course. I had already, previously,"Closed" the program using the drop down (same as using the X). That works fine for pretty much all other programs/applications I normally run.

This is getting to be a slight pain. Now all I want to do is get this Off of my Computer. I'm concerned that it might be still eating up memory or CPU use even though it shows all indications of not running. Very weird. Once gone/shutdown/deleted, I might then download and re-install again...hopefully remembering in the future to use the "Exit Program" button rather than the X.

Any ideas how I can do that, delete it entirely? I suppose a re-boot should do the trick to 'shut it down', then I could delete it, but I'd rather remove it manually....as a learning objective with regard to Java applications.

Is this very irritating (Java?) quirk common to all java applications?

Go to task manager.
Open processes tab
End process on instances of javaw.exe

In the meantime I will try to fix this behavior.
