I created this image for the two pilots shown, Wing Commander Tim Elkington (Flying Officer then) and Sergeant Eric Carter. It depicts their Hurricanes flying at sunset over Vaenga in Russia, where No.81 and 134 Squadron were part of "Force Benedict" during 1941, helping to fight the Luftwaffe with Russian pilots.

The interview I made with Eric Carter can be seen here:

Cheers, MP.

That glass reflections and the torch flames from the exhaust nozzles look fairly realistic! Congrats for the nice composition, Neil. thumbsup

Hands on the vid right now.

Neil, very atmospheric art.

But for me the Video is the real star of this thread. That was excellent!!

Yor welcome. It was great fun making the video I have to say. Just a simple interview with Eric chatting about his time in the RAF.

My favourite bit was when he got a brand-new Hurricane, just delivered to his Squadron in Liverpool and took it out for a spin.

He arrived back at base, and wondered why everyone was excited. It appeared that while he was flying the 'friendly' AA had opened up on the unknown aircraft above the clouds and looking over his Hurricane it was peppered with Shrapnel.

Glad you liked it. Cheers, Neil

Btw, we are honored to have Wing Commander (ret.) Elkington visit our squadron forums from time to time - lots of great gems and insights from him!

The Tiger Moth in the video made me aware that many of those planes had/have a funny extension of the horizontal stabilizer. The SOW one won't have it. Any ideas what this extension is good for?
