From the Rolling Hotel film, old vid of one of Clapton's best tunes to see live, another cover, Danny Flowers' "Tulsa Time." It never gets old.
Yep, piper, your experience sounds like the fiasco of a Zeppelin show that happened here in Louisville when I was a teenager, effin' amateur concert goers!! It's a shame you missed that Clapton performance, it would have been great as that was the beginning of the 461 Ocean Boulevard. tour. I've got some bootlegs of shows from that tour and they are all awesome. Even today Clapton still puts on one heck of a show, so see him if you ever get another chance to.

Well this thread's got me feeling nostalgic, so I cracked open the vault and started going through my collection of bootleg recordings and concert memorabilia. I'm definitely glad Kenwood made such excellent dual cassette decks back in the day (I've gotta start digitizing all this stuff, and soon). According to my collection of ticket stubs, Clapton is third on my list as far as the number of times I've seen any given band; 27 times in total, over a 30 year span.
Anyway, I've plowed through a bunch of Clapton recordings, trying to pay particular attention to songs he wrote himself, as it seems I prefer his cover songs the most. I kept coming back to stuff from the Slowhand era, 1978 for you younger listeners, back when Marcy Levy and Yvonne Elliman were his back-up singers. The Clapton penned song I vividly remember being a real epic (the few times I've seen him play it) is "The Core" from the B side of Slowhand. Sadly, Clapton never plays this tune anymore.
There's no video (just pictures) on these youtube bits, but both feature "The Core" performed in 1978 at the Santa Monica Civic (a variety of interesting pics of EC through the years on the first, the sound may be slightly better on the second). I'm pretty sure that this is the version of "The Core" that made it onto the Crossroads 2 compilation.

"She's Waiting" is probably the best tune on "Behind the Sun." I caught several shows from the North American leg of the "Behind the Sun" tour, and I recall that "She's Waiting" was one of highlights of each performance. Sadly, Clapton hasn't played "She's Waiting" in some time, I'd bet it's been almost twenty years.
Clapton's been known to occasionally play "Presence of the Lord" and "Can't Find My Way Home" from the "Blind Faith" album. Recently he and Steve Winwood have been playing together, doing Blind Faith, Traffic, and Clapton tunes, plus various covers. They did a tour in 2009 & 2010, I caught the shows in Cincinnati and Indianapolis over my 4th of July vacation last year, both were awesome. I believe they are scheduled to start touring again this year, the first U.S show is just two weeks away in Seattle.
