Hi Guys, as you may have read in the various UK papers last week, the Battle of britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) who operate a mixed flight of Spitfires, Hurricanes, Dakota (C-47) and a Lancaster, are being considered for the chop.
Once again we are faced with losing something of a national treasure, not to mention our heritage. The aeroplanes of the BBMF are operated as a memorial to those who lost thier lives on operations (both from the UK and Commonwealth) during WW.2 and in the years since. They not only represent the RAF but all three services, and are a sight & sound much loved by young and old. Don't let them fade away, please help save the flight from the axe by signing this petition to the Prime Minister:
HERE!
Unfortunately you have to have a UK address hence the UK only in the thread title. However I am sure the more 'artisan' amongst us will find away round that? wink Please help out if you feel you can. As BBMFs motto says, 'Lest we forget'.

I read of this in the BoB forum and someone stated that it would never happen, does this mean it could?

And as I said in that thread, we are so quick to drop anything that makes us who we are as a country and remember our past heroes who defended this country with their lives.

Signed.

This happens every time a public sector institution gets threatened with a budget cut.

Instead of getting rid of a bunch of pen pushing jobsworths, they'll threaten to shut down their most popular asset. The resultant public furore will force the government to cancel the cuts so the aforementioned jobsworths keep their snouts in the trough.

Works every time. frown

If they axe the BBMF, I will personally visit the homes of those responsible and hit them with a brick.

At least that's what I would like to do.

I have a few mates in the UK. I'll let them know. It would be sad if the last Lanc flying was the one here in Canada

they are always on the lists for budget cuts, the list is massive however. Of course once the media gets hold of such lists they see the chance to jump on a story of whats being axed instead of whats on the cards to be axed , even if it is so far down the list that i would only happen if the UK finance got so bad we got rid of the pound in exchange for the egg and worm. rolleyes

Ill sign it but they wont drop them I wouldnt worry there.
