No Pobs, it can do this on the other breaklines as well, meaning that the wall can do 45 degree turns, in or out. That's why it's so hard to keep track of the node positions and breaklines to stick to the rule.
In terms of triangles there is no difference but the way they are orientated are 45 degree off. A horizontal square is one tile with 4 triangles, a diagonal square uses two tile halves with 2 triangles on each.

Hi Von,

but you cant run along a line of tiles unless you make a 'sharks tooth' of 45 degree angles can you ?.. if your coast runs parallel with the tiles then it will only use the whole tile won't it ?.. that is what I meant about not having a 'break line' parallel with the tile sides only across the diagonals ...

cheers,

Pobs

Ofcourse the wall has to go inward or out ward and the minimum for a straight breakline is at multiples of 45 degrees and not 90 as in your picture. However sloping will act different depending on the other triangle's positions but straight walls can use this to give more irregularity at the top. The shark behaviour can't really be avoided when a turn has to be made as tiles can't stretch like textures on a 3DZ, but after the turn they can be straight again for as long as you think is needed, untill you have to make another turn. That's just inherent to 4 node positions and 3 breaklines.

There might be a flaw in the single tile theory Pobs and you may be right after all. Allthough it has 4 triangles it doesn't have a breakline through the centre congruent to the baseline. This could mean that only the bottom triangle can stand up straight and the adjacent ones need to go around the corner and/or have less sloping. Not sure if that'll work as I haven't had a look at it yet. All diagonal lines work though.
Obviously the right view depends on how the nodes can be placed and what can be done with the breaklines. I wouldn't mind if it's not straight all of the time as there's still the possibillaty of the 3DZ. We'll just have to see how far it can be taken.
