I found out the hard way that VGA splitter cables are next to useless. The splitting causes a reduction in signal strength which causes both displays to appear dark and/or blurry.

Luckily I was able to pick up a manual vga splitter switch for about $5.

Cheers

Great work AD looks really good. As for VGA splitters I found out that using the splitter was the way to go too. No need for two images at the same time if you're only using one display anyways.......

I've got a mate living in the states (British ex-pat), here's his PVC pit.

One of the better examples IMO.

I've sent him the link to this thread, hopefully he'll jump in with a few more pictures

Sorry.

I have been offline for some time now and I did not know about you inquiry before.

You did a great job anyway, AD... congratulations!

I must tell you that Xpress-Pits were designed mostly to be portable, fast to build in series and very cheap.
If you are planning to have something more "definitive" I would consider using some kind off wooden material.

On the other hand, I have been using the protoptype of Xpress-Pit 2.0 for a number of years now, and I never had a major problem with it, apart from the quality of the seat (we had to change several broken seats from our Xpress-Pits).

Thank you for your interest.

Nice job on your pit! I don't have any plans to offer as I built this from scratch (and it looks like you already found a good set of plans) but here is what I came up with using PVC and ABS pipe:

Thanks for your compliments, and HUGE thanks for your excellent plans. They made building this pit simple, hassle-free and importantly, fun. Having the pit has made flying so much more enjoyable.

Are you considering designing an Xpress-pit 3? I have a few suggestions if you are interested:

1) Have a support section under the center of the seat. A T section in the center of the front and back horizontal seat supports would help to take a lot of the force.

2) Make the forward lateral supports much narrower. With the very low center of gravity I can't see the pit tipping over. Such wide supports don't seem necessary.

3) Diagonal supports from the outside of the arm rests diagonally in and down to the pipe laying flat on the floor. This would make the arm rests much sturdier allowing them to take some serious weight.

Brigstock, Jiver,

Both look fantastic, much neater than mine.

Jiver,

I especially like the cabling work on yours jiver, very neat. Do you not find the pedals are a bit low?

Cheers

AD,

Thanks for your compliments! Yes, the pedals do appear to be a little low but they are comfortable to use. However, if I were to build another pit in the future I would raise (and tilt) the pedals so that my legs would be almost fully extended when using them. This would simulate the pedals on an aircraft more realistically.

Nice thread here guys. I guess I need to do a little looking around for something to help me out on the lengths and quantities of the pipes and connectors needed. Fortunately I have several stores (Lowes, Home Depot, etc...) and several mom and pop hardware stores around that carry all that stuff. Mine isn't going to be that extensive but will be built for when we move into the new house in a few months.

I was surprised when I saw just how high the pedals are in this FW-190 pit diagram (at the bottom of the page).

I could probably do with lengthening my pit by another 5 or 10CM as I'm quite tall and currently my knees come up quite high.

The plans I used to build my PVC pipe pit are linked-to in this forum post:

http://www.aviadoresvirtuales.org/index....start=105#48654

The plans are fantastic and everything you need is contained in a material list. I took the list to a local hardware store and they cut the pipe into the required sections for me. Even the wood measurements are contained in the plans, and I got that cut to order too.
Good luck with the build, it's well-worth it.

Cheers
