Anyone getting RB3D to run on Win 7? I have the game installed but it crashes shortly after the intro movie starts up. Tried options like Admin and XP compatability, but no go.

Mine works, on Win 7 x64. Not playing too much nowadays, though.
What glide wrapper are you using? If you want, i'll tell you my relevant specs about computer+RB setup when i get home later.

I also have Win 7 x64 but no glide wrapper, just a clean install of RB3D off the disc. The game installed okay, and it will run the intro movie okay, but crashes as soon as the movie is done.

I had the same in Vista too, so I think its more Vidcard related than OS. I assume its the fullscreen menu which causes the problem.
Give a try to the multiplayer part, for me it is working fine, but runs in window mode.

Oh, and my card is: ATI Radeon 3850

I dunno what to try. I have an ATI 4850 video card. I tried DL Gabi's glide emulator, but that makes no difference. I can open the Multiplayer option screen in windowed mode, but I don't want to play Multi, I want to get the single player game to run.

Could it be the Indeo codecs? confused
RB needs them to play the movies, but without them the movies wouldn't play at all.

I have only heard about the Indeo codecs and problems in later Windows OS:es and have no real knowledge about this.
There is probably someone else that knows more about it. dizzy

it runs for me in windowed mode, as I mentioned above.
Let's see if it works for you:
baron.exe -windowed

baron.exe- windowed, is that a file somewhere? I see the regular Red Baron start up file but no options to run in windowed mode.

-windowed is a command line parameter.
Basically you can use it in two different way:
A,
type the command "baron.exe -windowed" into a command prompt after navigating to the dir of rb3d (wincommander users has some advance here)

B,
Create a new shortcut for baron.exe (or you can use the normal shortcut, since this small change can be reverted easily)
right click on the shortcut > Properties
In the shortcut properties window, on the shortcut tab there is a target parameter.
For me its:
D:\Games\SIERRA\RedBaron3D\Baron.exe
So I change it to:
D:\Games\SIERRA\RedBaron3D\Baron.exe -windowed

apply changes, start, and it works... or not. hopefully yes.

LEt me know if you managed to do it, and sorry for my english, there's a lot more room for improvement.

Alrighty then we are making progress! Windowed mode got the game to run. Also, after choosing a gameplay option, such as Fly Now or Campaign, the game will switch over to full screen, so I don't play the actual game windowed, only the menu selection screen.

The only problem now is the joystick. The game doesn't see it at all, and all control is done via the keyboard only. XP had no problem seeing the joystick, and I can't remember ever having to mess around trying to get it to work.

Good to hear that.
I had no issues with the joystick so far.
Are u using the vanilla?
If yes, then I suggest to install at least the red baron 3d first aid kit, it mentions something on the joystick too.
You can find it on the wings of Valor website, under the utilities section.

http://www.wings-of-valor.net/

Maybe you find it helpfull.

Okay, I got the stick to work. I had to DL the software for it and then put RB3D in the profiler.

So everything is going well so far, only thing left to tinker with is the speed that the game runs at. With this quad core CPU it runs way too fast. I tried different glide wrappers but it still runs too fast. Have to figure out some way to get the game running at normal speed and I will be good to go!

Hey Staniol thanks for all your help getting RB3D up and running! Also, your English is fine, you can post on any English speaking board in the world with confidence.

Hello all, from the Illinois Prairie! Long-time lurking, first-time poster.

I am so close to getting Red Baron 3D up and running on my new machine - I can taste it. But I also taste the dirt when I slam into the ground!! frown

Relevant machine specs:
AMD Athlon II X2 240 - 2.8Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit
Integrated ATI Radeon HD4200 Graphics
4GB memory

Install process:
Original Red Baron II CD
Red Baron 3D Super Patch
v.1.078 Patch
Red Baron First Aid Kit Patch
Changed Target in Shortcut to -windowed
Basically followed all advice in this thread, the sticky thread in this section, and at the Mechanics Shop at Jasta 5

Game loads in windowed mode, under 600x800 (or whatever) resolution
No intro movie, but I'm fine with that
Can navigate menus just fine
Can fly Single Missions fine - little quick, but manageable

Problem comes when starting a career. I make my pilot and go to Carrer Menu and go to my first mission and...I can't take off! Full Autopilot and Navigation Autopilot nose me into the ground. I try manually, but as soon as I'm at about 30% power, I nose into the ground. Have tried yanking the stick all directions, still nose in the ground. Try, try, try - I cannot take off! I feel like Clark Griswold in European Vacation: "I can't get left! Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament!" Once I'm in the air, like you begin in the air in a single mission, I'm pretty sure I'd be fine.

I tried the Turbo in the First Aid Kit and set to 50% (thinking its a speed vs. joystick issue), but when I exit it sets itself back to 100% - I can't get Turbo to stay on 50%.

Any suggestions? As I said, I am so close! Man, I hope this thread is still a little active...!? cool

HD,

not the right man to help, since I run win98 on a Celeron 1GHz - Voodoo vidcard. But I feel your pain and would try giving some suggestion.

First of all remove First Aid Kit: I think it is useless if not harming.

Second, download and install a Glide Wrapper: it will draw very much CPU power. You may find them with related instruction at:

http://www.wingsofhonour.com/downloads/r...rappers.en.html

in addition, it allows to play full screen and graphic is much better.

Third, please set flight model to "authentic": this is mandatory especially if using any major patch.

Try and let me know.

GB

P.S.:

here follows a very useful tutorial for DgVoodoo setting:
