Oleg made some comments about a % who play online and who don't, how he came to that number I don't know and was probably looking at the total sales vs the average number on HL at some point in time (I really don't know and I don't know how you could come to accurate figures regarding this either) put it was something along the lines of 5-10% fly online and the rest are SP.
With ROF you could probably arrive at the stats a lot easier with the online authentication mode.
In general (and from my personal experience) it is the online community that seem to be the loudest regarding their opinions and what they want.
I admit, I myself am a online person, I would rather fly and fight with my unit against other people but I definitely wanted the track recorder and it was on the road map so it came out sooner than the DF server which wasn't on the original road map. So that's the key here guys, what was on the road map was delivered earlier, the items not on the original road map will take further time and unfortunately means other planned items get pushed back.

Oesau, I think the fact that a D/F server was not even on the roadmap was a big shock to a lot of people,who were possibly expecting a similar set up to il2's simple 'hyperlobby,pick a server,fly' set up.Especially with the online flyer credentials of the developers. I am a recent convert to RoF,and love it,but really,the fact that online D/F servers were not even planned will remain one of life's great gaming mysteries.

I believe that probably came about during the development and the request that were being made in regards to MP. Everyone was saying they wanted a really good co-op MP feature. So, that is what we were given. Now, since that doesn't include instant respawn, friend/foe airbases within a stones throw away from each other, etc., no one is happy with it. But they did give us exactly what was asked for. There is a good co-op MP feature in the game now. I'm sure there will be a really good DF MP feature too, but it appears they are starting it from scratch and it will take some time to get it made, debugged and implemented into the game. But coming down on the team for not having it in there from the start isn't really fair to them. They did do what was asked of them to do. Now they are doing what is being currently asked for. If I ask you to paint my car red with a gold pinstripe but when you got it completed I said "No, that's not what I really wanted, I really want it gold with a red pinstripe. Redo it now and I don't want to wait for the paint to be mixed, applied and cured",,, well, I hope you see my point.

Why is the ROF community so self-righteous all the time? Because we're the RoF community! C'mon, we are talking about flight simulation people, right? Rule Number One: There is nothing a developer can do that we can't find fault with!  The dev team is doing exactly what you want them to, which is building stuff you are screaming for. Yes. And we are really happy with it! And not. Please see rule number one! Frey: You wait for the duration of ONE mission, at the most some ten minutes, and then you can fly on and on for hours in different missions. It works really well and is a blast. I don't see why DF and immediate respawn is seen as some holy grail game changing thing, when all it does is just getting rid of that one-off ten minute wait. This assumes that I want to fly the mission as provided. The fun part about an open-ended server is deciding on ad hoc missions and trying to make them work. So while Ye Olde Furball is over the front, my friends and I can stealthily slip past and bomb the snot out of artillery batteries, strafe convoys, bust balloons, and go about all the "background" tasks that everyone claims is essential for immersion but are only flown by the minority. Likewise, nursing that ailing machine back to the right aerodrome is really fun - but a major drag on everyone else that is down and waiting for the next mission to start.

Sigh. I can't grasp why you treat the community like a bunch of idiots. Many of us have a lot of years of real-time software development experience, and your haughtiness is a real turn off.
As a "real-time" software developer who has worked with Jason I find your comments appalling. Jason understands the software development process quite well now (right, Jason?-) And if you can do better, write Neoqb - I'm sure they're just waiting with baited breath for someone with your talent!

I am going to have to call shenanigans considering I dont think you even read any of the post on the topic of a dogfighting server. I wish people would just stop using that term all together since it does not now nor has it ever represented what the community wished for when they requested it. DF server does not equal "instant respawn, friend/foe airbases within a stones throw away from each other." The dogfight server that everyone wants is a PERSISTENT SERVER WHERE PLAYERS CAN RESPAWN INSTEAD OF REBOOTING THE SERVER. The instant respawn, close airbases air quake crap is not what embodies the DF server. Hell you can do that right now with the current setup (minus the respawn) What people want is a way to log into an already running server with people already fighting, create a flight group, coordinate with friends, pick a target/objective and load into a persistent world. That way there is an element of surprise since there are already people playing and you do not know what they are doing or where they are at. It gives a reason for having more than just one type of plane since you will have people flying recon/scout, bombers and fighters. You then find them and interact with them be it by escorting or attacking. That is a Dogfighting server as REQUESTED BY THE COMMUNITY. What you described is a shortsighted joke that does not now and has not ever represented what the community asked for. Now a true dogfighting server with the features you described would be possible with the DF server setup but that is not what was asked for.

You know, they have some wonderful meds on the market these days to help people chill out  Back when the game was in development there was little or no mention of what people are now asking for. I followed the game pretty closely and what was asked for was things like 'we want a realistic co-op type MP'. That is what nearly everyone was saying they wanted. That is what NeoQB gave us. What folks are asking for now isn't a realistic co-op type MP. We already have that, but none seem happy with it. Kinda like a kid that wants that one certain gift for Christmas, then it is forgotten about come Dec 26. LOL Or maybe you were not there throughout the games development and didn't request the type MP you now seek. But either way, you are going to get it, so no worries.
