I wonder if anybody in this forum uses a voice recognition software (such as VAC, Shoot, Pilfius) with ArmA2 and what your experiences are. I know that some of these programs are quite popular with flight sim enthusiasts but I'd like to know how they work in ArmA2. Can you recommend any of these or maybe another voice recog. software?

Recently, I heard about GlovePIE which was designed to control data gloves but it also supports all kinds of input devices and features voice recog. This program can control TrackIR, multiple joy sticks, mice, console controllers etc. Some people are even trying to use it to play ArmA2 with WII pistols attached to their PC. As far as I know GlovePIE is the only voice recog. software which also supports mice. In ArmA2 it may be possible to control mouse wheel options by spoken commands.

If anyone has tried GlovePIE or any other voice recog., I'd be grateful for your opinion. By the way, my OS is WIN XP Pro 32.

I've used VAC for years ( http://www.dwvac.com ) and like it a lot. It just uses the Microsoft Voice Recognition engine to translate voice commands to keyboard/mouse button/media commands.

One thing to remember though is if you use a Teamspeak or in game push to talk key, slot that key into the "Push to DEACTIVATE Voice Commands" in VAC so that you don't inadvertently trigger a command while talking on the "radio". (I just remembered to do this for myself right now since I switched my TS key to something else a while ago).

If you have any questions about VAC let me know.

Dirt_Diver,

Thanks for your reply. VAC is indeed on my shortlist. I once installed it but unfortunately I didn't find the time to test it before the trial period expired.

By the way, I made a spreadsheet which contains most of the standard keystroke commands and corresponding voice commands. If you or other users are interested, I will be glad to post it here.

I've been using VAC with ArmA with great result!

Still have to update/rework the profile for ArmA II. I'm only using it for the ordering the AI units/teams around and when set up correctly it works excellent also with my "broken english" wink

I can also highly recommend VAC. The recognition accuracy is great ... just remember to keep spoken commands to two or more words. For example, recognizing "Team Open Fire" is easier than just the single word "Fire"

I would be interested in getting the ArmA commands spreadsheet ... save some time in setting up for ArmA 2 cheers

Blasrer,

thanks for taking interest in the spreadsheet. Am I allowed to upload a zip-file to this forum? If so, please tell me how. I am sorry but I must have overlooked the instructions.

As KeyCat already said, it is indeed a good idea to make voice commands which consist of more than one word. I suggest to make more than one voice command for each key press. For example use both "Form on me!" and "Return to formation!" Or, if you want to salute, you can make your voice recog. accept "Salute!" and "Yes sir!" and "Reporting for duty, sir!". This adds to the immersion (in my opinion) and it helps if the voice recog. refuses to accept certain words you say.

Thx for the info... Just FYI: no one can "upload" files in this forum, you can only provide a link for download.

Thanks Magnum,

Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?0mhhgmj5tyk I hope it works and you find the spreadsheet useful.

If you find any mistakes please let me know. I am not familiar with American military jargon (unless Hollywood movies count) so please help me correct any phrases you find inaccurate or unrealistic. And if you can contribute some colloquial or humorous expressions please do!
